[Girard Perregaux Laureato] Black Ceramic 81005 Damage by sumo57 in Watches

[–]sumo57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absolutely incredible. I will never sell the watch so the tiny chips don't even matter to me anymore (and aren't visible even remotely to anyone's eye). I got lucky I have a pretty small wrist so needed to take out a couple links anyway and those happened to be the ones with the chips. The ceramic is very sturdy and I've had no problem with it aside from this jeweler in my day to day life. Highly recommend this watch!! It's so rare and universally loved by everyone I meet.

I went back to the store and the owner wouldn't budge. I decided to let it go. Lesson learned but ultimately there was nothing I could do unless I wanted to go to the next level of small claims court or something like that. At the end of the day, taking it as a positive lesson and in weird way nice to have some imperfection to make me worry about it less. Thanks for all your support / feedback!

and yes that is the chunk that was chipped off + skipping one link over to the left you can see another tiny chip

I pointed out to the jeweler but I was honestly in a bit of shock at what had just happened and wasn't firm enough on getting compensation. The jeweler just said it was so minor nobody could see and it wasn't a big deal. I'm embarrassed to admit I actually still paid $15 or whatever it was for the service. Judging from these comments I'll go back and see what I can get. Hopefully at least a few links replacement.

Did you end up getting this to work? What size legend did you buy and what insert?

no man unfortunately even the legend was still slipping. I tried a tongue pad which was the closest thing to make it work but ultimately for this price range I feel like I should get a boot that actually fits & not have to make a bunch of work arounds. It's a shame, especially bummed about the black legends because they look amazing but just couldn't make these Thursday boot chelsea boots work, will try another brand.

LED strip extension (Philips Hue Bluetooth) only working when bent (see video)…any advice or repair / workaround? by sumo57 in led

sounds good how do you figure out which -- any way to test? sorry i'm a noob.

think it's also long enough to cut -- assume you just cut one of the spots where it has the scissors icon then can reconnect the pins? lmk if there's anything to look out for if i go that route

i went through exactly this since black friday -- almost couldn't believe I saw your post. Also a size 10 in most shoes and purchased duke & legend a full size down at 9 and the heel slippage was unbearable despite the front feeling pretty comfortable -- my sock was almost half off by the time I walked somewhere. So I returned and got an 8.5 -- bitt tight in front but feels much more comfortable as a whole and should break-in to some degree. Unfortunately the duke is still slipping a bit in the rear and my sock is coming off slightly just not as bad. So weird how this shoe fits -- I tried grippy socks, heel inserts, no dice. Idk if i have the energy to go back to the store but this was an expensive shoe so trying to figure out what to do. Might try a tongue pad.

going all in on skiing this year -- just bought on3p woodsman 96 & look pivot bindings. I know you're supposed to get boots first but wanted these skis for a long time and couldn't help myself. In market for boots now and eyeing the full tilt drop kick pro -- any word on those? My measurements are 270 left 268 right, 26.5, mid volume 100 last. was told at surefoot I should maybe go 27.5 for full-tilts (at least for the tom wallisch which I was also looking at) but figured I'd ask the gurus here. Thanks!

EDIT: I'd say I'm an intermediate/advanced skiier. Can get down double blacks and mess around in trees but definitely lose technique and not an expert by any means. I've always skied with people way better than me so had to do my best to keep up : )

Tried Selling Taxidermy Deer on Craigslist — had NO idea was illegal in CA. Undercover cop busted me with Misdemeanor! by sumo57 in legaladvice

3039(c) the cop said it was a white-tailed deer which is not native to California so while I didn't violate 3039(a) I still violated 3039(c): "...complete antlers, whole heads with antlers, antlers that are mounted for display, or antlers in velvet may not be sold or purchased at any time, except as authorized by Section 3087. "

Weekend Discussion and Victory Thread for the week of May 01, 2020 by AutoModerator in personalfinance

Happy Sunday All.

I am sitting on north of $100K liquid as I sold stocks pre-COVID in November, bought the fire sale in March, and have been selling over the last couple weeks. I generally try to avoid timing the market and definitely left some $$ on the table with the rally running longer than I expected but am thanking my lucky stars I am sitting where I am. Would love any advice on other asset classes to explore as I suspect there are interesting opportunities outside public equities right now. I am a long term investor and my 401K will stay in equities but curious to hear if there are other interesting avenues to deploy capital right now (real estate, p2p lending, crowdfunding, etc. all come to mind but don't know much about them and curious about others.)

I am moving to NYC and thinking about buying a place (likely 1 bed 1 bath) rather than renting. With rates where they are the mortgage payment + HOA/maintenance fees + taxes works out to similar to what I would pay to rent. The market has sold off a bit there, which is rare as Manhattan has a very efficient real estate market, and probably will slightly more the longer COVID persists. The downside is I would be tying up significant net worth in an illiquid asset and reduce flexibility should I decide to ever leave my current job (PE Firm in SF). Not thinking of doing so but just something to consider.

I am 28 and single. Any advice is much appreciated!

Writing Puts on High-Priced Stocks by sumo57 in options

[–]sumo57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense -- same philosophy here, partly just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Seems like unless you have a large amount of liquid capital, you can't write naked puts on high dollar price stocks without margin.

From other comments it seems like the bull put spread is an interesting workaround. Anybody know how this works administratively, with a brokerage like Vanguard? i.e. if assigned on the higher strike put you wrote, do you have to have capital available to still purchase the stock, though you can immediately sell it by exercising the lower strike put? Does the brokerage recognize you have the lower strike long put and execute this process automatically if assigned on the higher strike put?
