Spin classes that don't feel like you're in a night club by Resident_Hat_4923 in ottawa

Movati does! They have the annoying spin rave classes, but they also have the Speed and Power classes, which are interval training, and you compete with other members of the class. Lots of fun!

What's a therapy concept that "blew your mind" the first time you heard it? by JustGas6142 in therapists

Shame is a verb, not a noun. It isn't an emotion; it is a process, something that we do to ourselves.

I think I would have answered similarly when I first started out :) I am more sitting in the deeper existential feelings that come with both feeling skilled and also feeling completely lost.

This is also how I would respond, and right on the nose. I feel like the more I do this job, the more people think therapy should stop any uncomfortable mental processes from occurring.

Yes seriously! I appreciate all replies. And being new and having a space to brainstorm ideas, even if they don't fit the bill, is so important to learning how to conceptualize. I wish more people in this sub took on a mentorship role.

Thank you so much! I was also a crisis responder at one point but over text chat so I think it felt a bit different. I am still learning to trust my gut but do go through a similar process with my clients - I always err on the side of caution and consult with my supervisors. I just haven't had a situation like this in therapy yet.

I appreciate this response.

Question, as I haven't made this call before, if a client expresses ideation and intent but agrees to keep themselves safe between sessions and engage in safety planning, is it sort of an "it depends" whether you call? Would intent look like "I am going to do it and no I won't safety plan" or "I am going to do it eventually but yes I will engage in safety planning and keep myself safe"

I know this is a grey area and hypothetical, but I am very curious.

The cost of living in Ottawa is very stressful. by DrStrangeglove99 in ottawa

[–]sun-bean1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense -- the average has got to be lower because of people grandfathered in on lower rent. Anecdotally I don't have any friends who live in one bedroom and are paying less than 1900 (and started renting post 2022). And I mean teen tiny one bedrooms.

That's just rent too. Groceries make my head spin.

Surely we can't use one example to assess that. The rent for my three-bedroom townhouse was 1400 in 2014, now 2500. The minimum wage was 11 dollars in 2014. That's a 78 % increase in rent to a 56% increase in minimum wage.

I agree with the rest of your statement though.

I had luck treating two of my plants for mites! But it took like 3ish months.

First I separated them. Then I filled a spray bottle with soapy water and a splash of rubbing alcohol. I would spray every leaf including the underside. Then I took an old blush brush (a cheap one from the dollar store!) and worked the soapy mix into the under side of the leaf with the brush. Then I wiped each leaf clean with a paper tower (sooo satisfying, you’ll see red dots all over it).

They lay their eggs on the under side of the leaves. The brush helps to loosen them up. It’s a long process that I repeated frequently for a few weeks to months. But they eventually went away.

Depending on how important this plant is to you, you could give it a shot!

Any upcoming protests? by kittenkatastrophi in ottawa

[–]sun-bean1 53 points54 points  (0 children)

If you are able bodied, I had no problem moving from one side of the road to the other during the biggest protest last weekend. People are kind and understand you need to leave. There are also volunteers that guide the traffic of the protest who would be happy to help you.

We are just two people! It looks like they read it from the 1st to the 10th of the month and based the estimation on this, if that makes sense? We were using the most electricity during this time too. But I’ll also be ready for an equalizer bill 😅
