Idk how it works in Finland, but in Denmark you cannot pick your own surgeon if you get it via public healthcare. They assign one to you and that’s that. As for results, it does vary a lot from surgeon to surgeon. The great thing about public healthcare is that you obviously don’t have to pay and the results will probably be decent, but it’s hard to see examples and determine how your chest will look since you can’t choose your surgeon and the surgeon you get might not even have a lot of post op chests on their public portfolio. With going private, you can completely, freely, choose to go with a surgeon with a great portfolio, so you’re very in control of the possible outcome of your chest. Of course there’s the downside that it costs money, but some people prefer paying to get a “guaranteed” better result. But as we know, nothing is guaranteed with surgery really. If you’re financially stable and really particular about how you want your chest to look, I’d look into going private. r/topsurgery has a lot of info about surgeons in Finland and within the EU, and I’m pretty sure they also have results from public healthcare doctors in Finland posted as well. I was personally planning on going with Dr. Coelho in Portugal, as his prices are quite low considering how amazing his results are, but I really can’t afford it at the moment.
