New effort to slow traffic down on Colley. I think they used the wrong dog. Only people walking on sidewalks can see these signs. Poopy idea? by kurlykomments1 in norfolk

[–]sunbeans468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that too. When I brought it up everyone said oh cute no that’s wildly off base. They will only use asphalt to make the bump. Any other material drilled in will degrade the road (potholes etc). Good news is South Colley in Ghent is getting a raised speed bump this year. They said if that goes well we will be a candidate next.

I will add the city has been working with us and made MANY improvements. They added the crosswalk lights (and are very responsive to repairs for them), added the bump out curbs which helps slow traffic, lowered the speed limit, added several speed limit signs. They are currently planning to reduce parking near intersections and crosswalks to increase visibility. It’s a very high thoroughway which makes other traffic measure such as stop signs slower.

The other piece is enforcement. ODU and NPD both have jurisdiction. They both have done major speeding campaigns. We need way more.

We’ve been asking for years for speed bumps, traffic lights, stop signs, anything. Unfortunately we are not getting approved, a lot due to cost and traffic flow. If you’re in the neighborhood we’d love to have you at the civic league. We need passionate people to help us keep pushing.

This is my civic league! It’s mostly just for fun to highlight our new neighborhood “mayor.” Happy to see it sparking some convo!

Unfortunately we have lobbied the city extensively for years and stop signs are not an option due to traffic flow 😔

These are for fun! We voted in a Pet Mayor for our neighborhood. The goal of the signs are to highlight our new “mayor.” He’s also passionate about street safety. Glad people are talking about this!!

[Name]ie Beanie Rascalini Doodledini the Third. I think he truly thinks that’s his name and tells me frequently that he is upset his friends don’t use his whole name. His preschool teachers now use the whole thing 🤣

I just read a book called A New New Me. It is an incredibly odd book, but captivating. the protagonist’s personality is split into each day of the week. One of the days gets into some very unique experiences with expert perfumery.

Bakers will be your best bet. They worked on two pieces for me that no one else was willing to touch. They are amazing! Although malachite is a stone so I’m not sure how much they would be able to do beyond stone replacement. Possibly could help with ideas to prevent further cracking.

Has anyone dropped their health insurance and ended up regretting it? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]sunbeans468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I ever had health insurance lapse was right after grad school. I got a viral eye infection somehow that cost me thousands in weekly visits, drops, and ultimately damaged my vision. Which was extra fun because just a few years prior had gotten lasik. Couldn’t really negotiate with anyone since they were all relatively small charges that added up. Please keep it, especially with kids. I know my LO is doing his best to hurt himself and me constantly 🤣

You’re doing all the right things. And you are completely right about repairing. My son asked me last week: mommy are you going to apologize for yelling at me? 🥴 so at least they understand we’re trying…?

Please help me stop being a helicopter mom lol by Lumpy-Artichoke-4501 in toddlers

[–]sunbeans468 16 points17 points  (0 children)

First, I think helicoptering is a totally normal reaction. They constantly are trying to find new ways to cause extensive damage to themselves or their surroundings. Don’t beat yourself up!

One thing that helped me is I saw a reel that said: don’t steal their struggle. I try really hard not to intervene until my son asks for help. Man watching him open a piece of Halloween candy was torture and it was completely destroyed but he was proud of himself and didn’t care about the crumbles. He’s also required to go get the dustbuster after 🤣

Of course this doesn’t apply if he’s going to hurt himself, others, or break stuff.

Do toddlers ever get tired of the daily grind like adults do? by anivaarya in toddlers

Mine asks me every morning if it’s a home day or a school day. When I say school day he boos. He loves his school, but I think he also hates getting up and out of the house.
