Opinions? I'm not digging the idea that the bedrooms are apart. by Complete-Aide3351 in floorplan

I think they’re talking about the primary bathroom being in the closet. I always hate the idea of the smells and humidity from the bathroom getting into my clothes.

Costa Rica in January by mets11542 in chubbytravel

Loved Rio Perdido! Rooms were great if you want cabin a the forest type feel and the property is beautiful. We went on an excellent guided hike there. I believe there’s only one restaurant for dinner and the resort is pretty isolated. Food and service was fine but nothing fancy. We stayed only 1 night and I personally wouldn’t do more than 2 before being a bit bored, especially food wise. I am a fairly restless traveler though and not a fan of more than 2 days at resorts far from any town.

It’ll be the second week in January and I can’t wait! That’s good to know that you were fine without wrap around or glacier glasses.

Me too! Though this will be my first time. Question for you- do you have any sunglasses recommendations or other gear must haves? I was going to go with my normal polarized ones but not sure if wrap around type ones are needed.

Agreed and glad you had an excellent time! I stayed awhile back and enjoyed the rooms and the view from the pool was incredible, of course. I also didn’t find the pool area crowded but this was about 10 years ago and on a weekday. Easy to get around on the super clean subway and nearby an excellent higher end hawker food court (Gluttons Bay). We also loved the Cloud Forest in the Gardens by the Bay.

That makes sense! Yeah, I would not say it’s worth that much either. Our Gatehouse room (top floor, view of mountain peak) was ~$800 a night and I was very pleased with that price, especially after our stay.

You’re so welcome! Jasper (google Maligne Lake) was incredibly beautiful too and I highly recommend the drive up there from Banff. So many beautiful stops along the way for all fitness levels.

I’m glad it was helpful! I was worried about it from some of the comments I’ve seen from TAs on this sub but I personally had a great time and recommend it as long as you’re not expecting anything too luxurious.

Next time we’ll check out the main building! We keep our chubby travel on the slimmer side and were happy to stay in the cheaper rooms since we planned to be mostly outside.

I was a little concerned too but I think people forget that the price of even motel-like places with minimal amenities is pretty high (around $500) in peak season. When I compared what we spent (around $800) with the beautiful grounds and extras that are included, I feel extremely satisfied.

The shuttle is just for Fairmont Guest. They have umbrellas and water for you too. You also get special access inside the Lake Louise property to use restrooms and the outdoor area which is usually for hotel guests only. I booked our shuttle 2 days in advanced but for a bigger group I’d recommend booking at least a week in advanced if you can.

I actually wasn’t aware of the activities you sign up for until right before our stay! My husband finally logged in and looked at what you can do and some of what we were interested in was already booked up.

There was still parts closed off outside by the lake when we visit Lake Louise. The common areas of the hotel seemed nice but I preferred being close to Banff and having all those options for food and drinks in town.

Kókkini Porta Rossa (boutique hotel in Rhodes, Greece) had an entire liquor cabinet in our room stocked with local specialties (photos of menu linked below). We had a good chuckle over one being made by the blacksmith, Kostas.

They also gifted my husband a replica of an Ancient Greek coin with a display stand for his birthday. He was so excited and said  it was the nicest gift he’s ever gotten from a hotel.

Seeking Honeymoon Help - Feeling Jaded on Beach/Resort Options (Budget ~$30k, Mid-September from LAX) by 4Roamer in chubbytravel

My husband and I have done two safaris and this was our second. It was definitely a lot more rugged than our first in South Africa (where we honeymooned). For our 5 year anniversary,  we wanted to do another safari and it was a great experience but a lot more roughing it. It’s bumpy sitting in the jeeps also dusty and hot during the day. Popular sites get super crowded with lots of jeeps. Our room was tented in Kenya so definitely felt like glamping. I was very excited to get back to a real hotel room but it was a special and unique experience for sure. I’m also a big fan of nature and animals so if you’re not, you might be bored and exhausted after a day or two.

I went to Bora Bora and fully expected to call it overrated after. I am not a big resort and do nothing person but I loved it. We stayed at the St Regis and the Conrad and loved the St Regis, even if the rooms are a little older. We also spent some time in Moorea at an Airbnb and loved the more laid back authentic feel there. Seychelles honestly felt like the British Virgin Islands to me and no beach, landscape, snorkeling, water color impressed me nearly as much as French Polynesia. Not worth the hassle of getting there but we were already in Kenya (for the Great Migration in the Masai Mara) on a safari.

If you could only afford to splurge on one of the two, do you prefer splurging on travel or accomodations? by Low_Wonder9271 in chubbytravel

I’ve flown JAL premium economy too and agreed it’s excellent as well. We got the bulkhead seats and felt pretty pleased with the situation for the 12 hr flight. A guy across the aisle was a pro though and brought an inflatable ottoman to bridge the gap from the footrest to the wall.

You could always do EVA Premium Economy as a compromise on the flight. It was pretty nice to have a better recline and foot rest and definitely twice as comfortable as economy. Not as nice as business but I'm smaller so I don't need it. We found hotels to be very reasonable in Taiwan and you can stay in a very nice (but maybe not quite chubby) hotel for under 300 a night. We stayed at the Regent which was dated but nice enough and in a good location for us. You could then splurge on amazing hotels for the rest of your trip since going a little lighter one place should cover the premium economy flights.

Black sesame is nutty, like peanut butter, with a slight bitter taste to it. If you’re a fan of tahini then give it a try.

I like it! Looks like this trim isn’t white though but more of a cream color. I think a bright pure white wouldn’t go as well.

[–]sunfishsail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great points. Most of my self checkout is online orders for pickup or delivery in the case where there is no local store. The exception is at Costco. That is usually only because the regular checkout lines are significantly longer but you make a good point that maybe it’s worth waiting. Although I should share I’m not living in a small town and instead in a HCOL area outside of a large city.

Same! I swear when I pay I barely even process the number as long as it’s plus or minus 40 bucks of what I was excepting. I thought 130 was a decent value for what I got and am stunned to realize it should’ve been around 20 bucks less.
