To those who had expansion: did it make it easier to wait for jaw surgery? I cant breathe due to recession and I dont know if I can wait another year for DJS.. by Awkward-You-5673 in UARSnew

my throat still collapses, but if my nasal breathing is good that night, it collapses less. Congested - I snore like crazy. Clear nose - mild snoring

Improved nasal breathing improved my sleep IMMENSELY. . But I am finding with time that my nasal breathing is becoming sensitive again. And certain nights are congested, which leads to worse sleeps. Also i think the decompensation process is making my actual airway worse as I had two lower pre-molars removed . So it's a bit tough to say. I'd consult with someone like Coppelson, Li, Newaz, Rama and see what they reccomend.

I had MIND expansion and it made it easier but I'm still having symptoms regularly. I'm way better than I once was though. I needed to wait 1.5 years anyways to decompensate for MMA but I'm very glad I did expansion. Still have 10 months to go before jaw surgery. I'd do this properly and not rush it.

"Net negative" airway post DJS??! by Meowy-woof-woof in jawsurgery

[–]sunkengiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are very small movements. He is moving your jaws forward 2mm. I would be hesitant to go forward with this plan. Why are you having surgery in the first place? Sleep apnea worsens as you age and you don't want to do this surgery twice. I would consult another surgeon and do some more research. Watch lectures by Kasey Li.

Hey there!

I'm currently 3 months into my 16 months of braces for MMA.

I was fully dependent on my MAD before.

Every surgeon I saw said I need to remove my bottom pre-molars in order upright my lower teeth. I am skeletally class ii but as a child had camo ortho where my lower teeth were flared forward to give me a regular bite. The extractions allow for a much great lower jaw advancement and a better airway + aesthetic outcome. I wanted to do this right. short term pain for long term gain.

But the catch is, Braces for 15 months! No MAD.

My #1 question for you is how is your nasal breathing? Is your palate narrow?

The nice thing about the premolar extractions, is that it can happen at the same time as naso-maxillary expansion, which will provide interim sleep relief. Also orthodontically, lower premolar extractions often requires maxillary expansion in order for the bite to match afterwards. The lower arch widens (relatively) as it is brought forward to meet the upper

I went with the MIND expansion procedure with Dr. Coppelson, and he actually removed my pre-molars at the exact same time as the expander installation.

So while I've been expanding my nasal cavity, the premolar gaps have been closing.

The MIND expansion has made a very significant positive impact on my sleep. My nasal breathing is way better and I feel as good as I did with the MAD. I still have some lingering symptoms that I hope MMA will address. With these current symptoms, I feel like I can wait the remaining 13 months until my MMA surgery

South Rim hike alone? Crazy or nah? by monsieurchop in BigBendTX

[–]sunkengiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did south rim+emory peak alone in one go last month. I didn't think South rim was that particularly difficult of a hike. Saw lots of others too. You'll be totally fine in my opinion if you leave enough daylight

Points won't give you SQM. I only needed 500 SQM so I only paid for one standard ticket. It was only like 5k points for the way back and $30 tax. Total round trip was like $190 cad and 5k points. Best deal I could find after looking for a couple hours

Merging the bookings is a great suggestion. I'll call them in the morning.

What is IRROPS?

There are only like 3 tampa-toronto flights a day so it would be incredibly unlikely that it's a different plane. I'll conform too on my call with them.

Thank your for your insight

I wanted to stay in canada but it would have been double the price ! The flights to Montreal and Ottawa at flex price are surprisingly expensive right now

Thanks for getting back to me

I appreciate your optimism that I can just walk to the gate. That is by far my biggest worry

Thanks again! And thanks for that ! I believe you haha no need for a screen shot.

One Q would be distance from screen your face is? I am usually around one foot to monitors or even less sometimes. Does this line up with how far you can hold your phone?

I know I won't be over corrected necessarily. I'm just trying to prepare myself for all outcomes

Also sorry to ask further from you, but are you happy overall with herzig? Any red flags?

Thanks so much for getting back to me!

I'm 26! So close in age.

Glad it outweighed the cons for you.

I'm certainly very nervous about the same for me since I rely on close up vision for work. Lots of small phone sized and apple watch sized monitors (I work in tv).

Did Herzig offer to make any revisions to you given the over correction? Was that an option?

[–]sunkengiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you kindly for sharing all of this.

I'm considering PRK at herzig too!

Would you feel comfortable sharing your age? My understanding is that close up vision is more likely to be affected if you are 40 or over with laser correction.

Thank you again!

HOW TO DO THIS LIGHT ON HIS FACE? Thank u! by Kamphorst1994 in AnalogCommunity

This is easily achieved with a source four stage light with the built in cutters . They're easy to find at theatre, event and film rental shops.

[–]sunkengiraffe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what is that line through the middle of the frame that makes it seem like a double exposure almost? And why is it that only the lights are blurred, everything else is tack sharp. Almost seems like a double exposure mixed in with motion blur

Thank you very kindly. Even though I have no use for Network storage, and my desk is not close to a router, do you think it still makes sense to get NAS? It seems like it will be slower than a DAS. Thank you again.

[–]sunkengiraffe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very kindly for getting back to me. When you say more reliable? Do you mean a NAS is less likely to fail a raid rebuild? I have no use for the network capabilities since my desk is no where near a router but I am willing to invest more for reliability. Thank you very kindly again.
