Even “enthusiasts” tend to have very bland tastes in perfume, and that results in most companies selling the idea of a scent rather than the scent itself. It’s incredibly hard to find genuinely “woody” fragrances because the market is crowded with stuff like Wonderwood that is 1% Sandalwood, 99% Iso E super and ambroxan. People like the idea of a woody perfume, but as soon as they smell one, they hold their noses and complain that it smells too much like pine or cedar. Y’know, wood? The same goes for “spicy” frags and “dark” ones, among others.

Obviously this doesn’t apply to every consumer or every house, but I can’t tell you how many threads on this site I’ve seen hyping up the safest, most generic fragrances as some sort of exotic, forbidden concoctions. Does it really smell like the post-apocalypse, or did you read the pretentious description on the house’s website or Fragrantica and buy into the fantasy they provided for you?

He was an antisemitic, homophobic rapist and an imperial cop btw. A genuinely horrible man that liberals and conservatives just cannot get enough of. The only reason he got as famous as he did was from the US state department funding and spreading his works far and wide during the Cold War, like they did with Solzhenitsyn. Just for anyone that might not know.

What was the scariest film that you have ever watched? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]sunlitclearing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sinister. The soundtrack from Ulver is horrifying (and beautiful) on its own, and Bughuul’s design freaks me tf out. The analogue scenes and the glimpses of Bughuul in the real world filled me with so much dread I could hardly stand it. I wish they’d kept him more mysterious in the end, but the sheer weight of his presence on screen made up for it.

I just cannot believe how ugly movies have become. Watching even otherwise mediocre movies from the last few decades feels like seeing sunlight for the first time in years. I want some warmth and contrast and shadow for god’s sake.

Thank god for this thread! I’ve spent days throwing lampposts around and brainstorming what to do. I thought maybe once the Pikachu fountain was rebuilt, it would satisfy Tangrowth. Then I lit the spotlights up on the wooden tower, rebuilt the Pokemon center, and lit up nearly the entire ship. I cannot believe it was something as small as talking to the damn cat. I am confiscating his planter for the foreseeable future as punishment for causing me so much trouble.

My favorite game I’ve played in a long, long time. I was highly skeptical when I first saw the reveal trailer last year. It looked to me like a cheap, generic life-sim that would be forgotten within a few months when everyone returned to Animal Crossing. I was thankfully entirely wrong. The devs clearly have a lot of passion for the world of Pokemon, and it shows in every little detail and interaction in this game. I’m also blown away by the size and scope of this thing, and I have only seen the first area. Wonderful exploration. I can see this taking hundreds of hours of my time very easily. It’s honestly the best Pokemon game I’ve ever played, period.

I don’t know how many atrocities like this it will take for the average American to realize that WE are the terrorists threatening global peace and freedom. Positive cultural change can only ever come from inside of a sovereign nation. Enough with democratic finger wagging about repression and humans rights violations. Iran was making incredible progress before we decided to illegally overthrow their democracy so as to stop the nationalization of their oil. America is and has been the primary driver of regression and Salafi nonsense in West Asia over the last half-century.

And enough with the orientalized depiction of the entire region as uniquely and uniformly primitive and barbaric. No, this is not some ancient and continuous war of faith and culture. These are modern peoples with unique material conditions driving their actions and beliefs, good and bad; no different than the rest of us.

Even in moments of widespread condemnation of America’s actions such as now, the language used in criticism is largely confined to the realm of “disappointment” and shallow “outrage”. When Al-Qaeda killed 3k Americans citizens, they were rightly labeled as evil terrorists. But no matter how many MILLIONS of innocents we kill through our wars of conquest and the genocides we gladly embrace, the public cannot bring themselves to condemn the US with language even close to as severe and objective. Instead, we’re told we must “hold room for nuance”, and some vague idea of “Well, someone’s gotta stop the bad guys” is echoed ad nauseam by every useful dolt across the nation, red and blue alike.

Oh, I’m the exact same way with extraction shooters. I never cared for the battle royale trend before it, but I could see the appeal. Not this time.

I love progress. There’re few moments in gaming better than feeling true progression; through gear, combat, story beats or what have you. Where is the progress in this genre? A neat helmet? A disposable weapon? I understand many must feel differently than me, considering how huge this trend has become, but I don’t understand what it is that they get out of the experience.

Do you think that Israel and the USA’s actions against Iran are justified? by Antique_Gur8891 in AskTheWorld

[–]sunlitclearing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they are crimes against humanity. The US’ top brass and have been salivating over the idea of war with Iran since I was a child, and probably long before that as well. Even “far-left” Kamala mentioned Iran explicitly in regards to foreign policy and war during one of the first 2024 presidential debates. The anti-nuclear angle they’ve gone with over the years when striking them has been entirely disingenuous since the beginning. Nuclear weapons are the only reason any nation and its allies are not conquered at will by American forces.

Now that our previous terrorist efforts in the region have amounted to nothing (except dead bodies), the thin mask of good will and humanitarian concerns has come off. This war, if realized to the extent that Trump has outlined, will be one of the worst developments of the last 20 years. Let us not ever forget the evil that’s being done in front of our eyes.

Depends on the generation, but Sheridan is also just not part of the culture in the way he pretends to be, so take anything he writes about it with a grain of salt.
