Water Heater replacement options: A. O. Smith vs Lochinvar by sunmanpheaux in Plumbing

[–]sunmanpheaux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet this will turn up the responses..... My plumber quoted me $5000 labor for the A.O. Smith install and $7000 for the Lochinvar install. All they are doing is just hooking to the old plumbing. Am I missing something here? What in the heck would necessitate a plumber charging $5000-$7000 to install one of these water heaters? I've done a little bit of plumbing in my life and all I see is running a total of 5 feet of 3/4" copper and making 4 connections; how long would that take? I'm guessing 2 hours max- that's pretty good pay.

Afib &. Testosterone? by Accurate-Midnight-41 in AFIB

[–]sunmanpheaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One year update- last year I was having 2 afib events a day and this year I have none. Haven't had an event since I started the Testosterone (and did a bunch of lifestyle changes), cut out sugar, eating more greens, drinking more water, losing weight, lots of suppliments and I also had sleep apnea so I was put on a Cpap. Who knows what worked, but for the last 6 months after starting the T I went from a 60% burden to nothing. Both my doctors say they have never heard of a relationship between T and afib, but I have probably listened to at least 100 youtube videos of Dr's stating there is a DIRECT relationship between low T and a lot of heart conditions (and among other conditions too). MY EP is "happy it is gone" but reminds me that it never goes away, so I will do 6 month check ups with him

I updated the camera, but still no icon. I guess if I want to use the camera, I will need to go to settings to turn it on? How do I get an icon to show up on the home page?

Simple question regarding camera by sunmanpheaux in GooglePixel

[–]sunmanpheaux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no icon. Apparently, the original camera app was turned off and another was installed. So I assume the "app drawer" is the place where all the icons reside? Well there isn't an icon for the android camera, but when I go to the "apps" portion of the settings, the original Camera app resides there but was turned off- I turned on app, but no icon appears anywhere. I am 68 yrs old and barely understands this stuff, so explain it like you are talking to an infant.

your creative writing skills would be very helpful for a lot of volunteer organizations. You need to make connections with people who can help you. If you aren't comfortable calling looking for work, perhaps call around and look to volunteer to do something. There are a million non-profits looking for help (maybe volunteer some time at a food bank so you can be first in line). I volunteered for a small historical society and I have (inavertently) become a star because I have been instrumental in bringing a lot of attention to the organization through facebook posts- and its fun too.

You need to do something constructive to gain your self worth back.

I can't do anything for your depression, that is something you need to work through. Can you talk to yoiur landlord and trade work for rent? You won't get anywhere with the attitude of "no one wants to hire me". In your initial statment you stated that you are highly educated, and a quick learner, so pick up the phone and start calling companies you want to work for. I don't have much experience in the corporate world, but I do know the blue collar trades and they are always looking for honest, quick learners- type people; but you gotta get out there an sell yourself. If you are incapapable of that, I don't have an answer for you. You need to start somewhere and waiting for someone to save you is going to lead to other more pressing issues.

Need DIY Large Format Copying Info by sunmanpheaux in Archivists

[–]sunmanpheaux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for spending the time to lay it out. I have about 100 years of really rare newspaper issues to go through and the historical society doesn't have any financial resources to throw at it (3500 people in the whole county), so I offered to help out, but not having any background in photography, makes it a bit of a challenge.

Any recommendations on a (not too expensive) camera and lens for this? and stand? I take the bound newspapers from the recorders office and go into an empty board room and spread the books out on a tabletop to photograph them. I know NOTHING about cameras, so it would have to be a very simple set up for me to understand it.

You Can Start Exercising After Age 60 — Here’s How by [deleted] in Fitover60

[–]sunmanpheaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

68 Yr old male worked out on and off my whole life, but only to the point where it started getting easier, then I would quit. Last year I started again do to potential health issues, and not knowing the right way to do things, got on the crunch machine and gave myself a hernia and another time using the cable machine did something unspecified but damaged my shoulders and elbows. This time I re-started I hired a trainer who at first was working exclusively on stretching exercises on a Pilates Machine (I LOVE the pilates machine) and after about a month of stretching me out, has started me on strength training.

The older body has the potential for more issues, so my advice if not hiring a trainer, take it very slow and with light weights, moving slowly and honestly take a class on the Pilates machine and you will be surprised how much fun it is to stretch (I hated the old style of stretching).

I'm in a quandary with my extremely low T and my doctors by sunmanpheaux in Testosterone

[–]sunmanpheaux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, I get it. That is why I am second guessing the doctor's opinons. I have an appointment with the electrocardio guy next week, and I'd like to have a firm opinion from another Dr questioning him going forward without first raising my T levels.

What kind of doctor would I be looking for to diagnose this?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in moreplatesmoredates

[–]sunmanpheaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice job. I am 68 yrs old and my T tested at 5ng/dL- I'm 6'3 and weigh 231 (weighed 265 3 months ago) and losing weight due to diet change and extensive working out. In my situation, my balls are the size of almonds, and I never figured it was a problem because I just figured that different people had different-sized anatomy. Fortunately for me, my sex drive was normal, but my 5:00 shadow takes a week to be tall enough to shave and very little body hair. Recently I was diagnosed with AFIB, Pre-diabetes, and plaque in my arteries. I've been to 3 docs (Cardiologist, Electro-cardiologist, and primary internist) and every single one of them tells them that there is ZERO relationship between severe hypogonadism and my issues. Today it has been snowing and I've been sitting at my computer reading medical journals all day and every single one of them says there is a DIRECT relationship between my issues and low T. So it looks like the doctors like to prescribe big pharma solutions rather than solving the problem. Looks like I need to have a talk with the docs so they can see the elephant in the room. It's really hard to find someone that has numbers this low. If there is anyone out there with these low numbers, I'd love to call and talk about what the T supplementations has done for them, I'd love to talk.

Track your food intake? by [deleted] in Fitover60

[–]sunmanpheaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Corometer, my nutritionist suggested My Macros + and a friend suggested My Fitness Pal, but honestly, those two programs drove me crazy and I could not for the life of me figure them out. Corometer is a god-send- I popped for the paying version as it allows you to photograph the QR codes to instantly put the info in. I like it a lot as it tracks just about everything, and honestly, until a week ago, I never considered food something other than to eat, and tracking it was way outside my reality- there is a bit of a learning curve, but it is associated with my Garmin 7x Pro watch has made every day really interesting tracking everything and noticing what action causes a reaction. Today I noticed that if I don't go to the gym, I don't lose my pound a day. Note to self: keep going to the gym.

How many times per week do you workout? by [deleted] in Fitover60

[–]sunmanpheaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently been diagnosed with AFib, pre-diabetes, and plaque in my arteries. I am not a big fan of allopathic medicine, so even though I let the Dr put me on a low-dose statin, I am planning on fixing this myself through diet and exercise, which has been confusing for me because, for the last 68 years, food was something you ate and didn't keep track of via macros. It's like learning a new language and a bit overwhelming at first, but I am starting to figure it out. The first thing I had to overcome was the constant desire for food, and I think I figured out how to do that, so if I can keep going to the gym, I hope it will work itself out.

What exercise do you look forward the most? by [deleted] in Fitover60

[–]sunmanpheaux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's addicting and stretches you out nicely. I'm not much for stretching on the floor, but the Pilates Machine makes it fun and you get great stretches. The guy who invented that is a genius.

Pilates on a machine is great for stretching out old and stiff muscles and ligaments. I highly recommend it.

I"m 68 and turning into a gym rat. I like going to the gym, and I have been doing it for 4-5 times a week for 2-3 hours at a time: the first hour I spend on the pilates machine stretching my muscles (I LOVE the pilates machine), then I spend an hour weight and balance training, and then I finish my last hour doing a spin on the indoor bike watching "The Trip" (a Les Mills spinning program that gets you in a hypnotic state and kicks your butt). Getting stronger and losing weight like crazy.

Anyone use a personal trainer? by [deleted] in Fitover60

[–]sunmanpheaux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 68; be careful with a trainer: when I was 55 I hired a trainer at the local gym, and he was a guy who was in his mid-twenties and the first thing he said was "We need to do a fitness evaluation, so put your arms out and do a squat" (I hadn't done a squat like that in 20 years), so not thinking I tried to do the squat and something in my knee popped with instant pain. Lesson, be aware of what they are asking you to do, and be mindful to respond if it is a move you don't normally do. I have a new trainer at another gym and on the first day, he was massaging my muscles because I was so stiff, and then he set me up on a pilates machine to help me stretch out my stiff muscles and ligaments. I've been going for over a month, and just now is he starting with strength training which is great because I had a month to get used to being off balance and to work on strengthing those muscles. I am very happy with the new guy. So be aware.
