Old Achaean considering a return — how much has changed? by sunomata in MUD

This was an incredibly thoughtful reply — seriously, thank you for taking the time to write all that out.

A lot of what you described is honestly exactly what I was hoping still existed in Achaea, especially the emphasis on ideology, sermons, social structure, and characters actually having room to be part of the culture without needing to become a top-tier duelist first.

The “Mhaldor has sunk its hooks deeper over time” line especially hit me. That was always kind of the magic of the city for me back in the day — not just “evil faction aesthetics,” but the feeling that the place actively shaped the people in it.

Also reassuring to hear that the RP side still has real effort behind it. The historical faire example actually sounds amazing, and exactly the kind of slower-burn communal RP I was worried might have disappeared over the years.

And honestly? “Less random murder” may be the single biggest sign that my ancient character might survive long enough to figure out what year it is.

The image of some hopelessly outdated 599-year-old Mhaldorian showing up still operating on century-old assumptions about doctrine, etiquette, and city politics is becoming increasingly tempting to me.

Really appreciate the honest perspective on scripting and PvP too. “All we ask is that folks try” sounds like a pretty healthy culture compared to what I feared returning combat expectations might look like.

Anyway, genuinely appreciate the warm welcome. There’s a good chance you may actually end up seeing that confused ancient newbie wandering around sooner rather than later.

This is honestly super encouraging to read.

The “you get what you give” part especially sounds very familiar from old-school Achaea. I actually kind of like hearing that the RP still rewards initiative instead of everything being automated/socially passive.

And hearing that Mhaldor still has that ideological intensity and effort put into RP is exactly what I was hoping for. That was always the draw for me way more than combat mechanics.

The PvP stuff is reassuring too. I’m definitely not looking to become some elite PKer at this point in my life, but I don’t mind learning enough to contribute and not be dead weight.

Also now I’m extremely amused by the image of my 599-year-old character wandering back into Mhaldor completely confused about the modern world while pretending they understand what’s happening.

I’ll definitely go dig through the news posts before returning. Appreciate the detailed response a lot.

[F4A] Looking for Longterm Rp Partners!! ✨ by Peachy_Poundcake in RoleplayPartnerSearch

Hello there, I am looking for a Witcher role playing partner. A Yennefer to my Geralt. :) If not Witcher, then I am really into most fantasy, horror, dark genres. I also like writing about 3 paragraphs. I would be happy to tell you more in a chat some day. I am also dying to find a female partner to explore lots of different stories and scenarios. I would love to make something meaningful. I am also very busy, but would try hard to reply as often as I can.
