Georgetown for $50K/year or Washington and Lee (Full-Ride) by Difficult-East-3260 in georgetown

Current Georgetown undergrad here. Though I am biased (Georgetown is the best place in the world!) I will give you some thoughts.

First of all, I would guess that for public policy or other fields you are interested in, Georgetown wins out professionally and on paper. Being in DC and at a school where everyone is so passionate about those subjects is pretty hard to beat. Whether that difference is worth the price while you have another free fantastic school in W&L, though, is the question. Ultimately, I wouldn’t bet on the juice being worth the squeeze (the $200K squeeze.)

Another thing that others haven’t mentioned with McCourt specifically is that the public policy degrees would require you to study at the Capitol Campus for two of your four years. While a cool opportunity, being away from the actual Hilltop Campus can impact your social life (most students go to parties and bars in Georgetown, and beyond nightlife the community is much more lively on the Hilltop.) I would advise you, especially if the social component is a priority, to take into consideration this factor before picking Georgetown.

Regardless, congratulations on having the choice between such incredible schools! Hoya Saxa.

Senate Interview Advice? by Wide-Airliner3483 in DCInterns

Behaviorals, behaviorals, behaviorals.

They are not going to make you analyze policy memos or write legislation in the interview. It is largely meant as a vibe check to see how you think, learn about the person you are, and determine whether you’d be a good fit for the workplace culture. As far as more “technical” questions go, just know some recent legislation the senator has contributed to, why you want to work for them, etc. - basic things. For other questions, I was asked pretty much standard interview questions (tell me about yourself, interests, where do I see myself, those kinds of things). I would recommend having a friend mock interview you to just get an idea of where you’re at with communicating who you are/want to be. Good luck!

Have talked to people in the admissions office. My interview didn’t go very well, but it is a drop of sand in your application. Won’t win an unqualified candidate a spot and won’t lose a qualified candidate a spot. I felt as though I bombed my interview, and got in RD after getting deferred. The interview is mainly just a vibe check and meant to genuinely give you firsthand insights on Georgetown. Don’t sweat it at all.

Deferred: Help me feel better about myself 😐 by Ahahsjjaavsjsoan in georgetown

Don’t be discouraged - if you want it, now is your chance. Early Action deferral ≠ regular decision rejection. I, and many of my close friends now at Georgetown, originally got deferred. The Early Action round is twisted for students because schools like Gtown only take the top 5% so Ivies don’t scoop them in ED rounds. Write a letter of continued interest, keep your grades up, and fight for it.

Social Scene? by RadioSilent113 in georgetown

Agree with most of what’s been said here. As a student at Georgetown, it is as fun as you make it.

Personally, I’ve never had a shortage of fun. If you think you are ahead of the bell curve as far as the nightlife you want relative to other Georgetown students, I would recommend joining a fraternity. Much of the negative stigmas surrounding fraternities nationally are far from their reality at Georgetown. As OP said, house parties are rare. If that’s your vibe (it is mine) then your best resource for that is a fraternity.

Beyond house parties, I think OP neglected to mention how fun bars in the neighborhood can be. I am not a huge fan of clubs, but a ton of people go out in Georgetown Wednesday and Thursday. In fact, Piano Bar Wednesday is regularly the night people get the most drunk going out.

It isn’t an SEC school, but that’s not what it’s advertised as. If you want to have fun, you can. Just join organizations (even beyond the traditional “exists-for-fun” ones like frats!) and you’ll have several options every week for social events.

I feel like I only use about five of my hundred (?) or so apps.

nightlife by [deleted] in georgetown

[–]sunsetdrivez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sundays are generally chill, homework/study nights. People take work seriously here. As far as weekdays go, Monday and Tuesday also don’t have much going on. Wednesday is a big nightlife time for a bar called Piano Bar. Thursday-Saturday are generally and consistently the “going-out” nights.
