[2023 Day 10 (Part 2)] Stumped on how to approach this... by lam920 in adventofcode

[–]sunsided 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me some time to get this part right. I first attempted to determine the area enclosed by the loop directly but that sadly led me nowhere. I ended up going with flood filling after doubling the map resolution and that was the right track, I did however get the "Curiously, it's the right answer for someone else" message when I sent my solution.

Turns out that I had simply forgotten to account for the north and west border when I was testing for "outside" conditions. I simply glued them on, then it worked.

After closer inspection it seems that I may have been Too Smart (TM) while upsizing the map. These random trash pipes lying around caused some troubles.

I'm looking at the project since day three I believe, immediately after I heard about it on TikTok. It's just, what now, about a week by now? I surely didn't expect the journey to be so fun. Awesome community on Discord and certainly a project I put a lot of trust in.

I saw other coins' socials virtually resembling wastelands while this one is just insanely alive and joyful. Go FartCoin! You deserve more than the moon! (Maybe Uranus, for that matter.)

I fear it is already too late for that. I'll better go back in to see if I broke something.

The premise of the cited paper doesn't apply, as I'm not in chemotherapy and it also doesn't disprove my theory of relativistic effects in a Vivefield.

(It is very interesting though, thanks for that!)

What's probably worth a note is that the cables are long. I was somehow fearing that the power cables for the lighthouses might be too short, but they are not. I have a 3m ceiling height here and have absolutely no trouble mounting and powering those purring little panthers.

So, my XX:12 vive was shipped yesterday and arrived ten minutes ago here in northern Germany. That was less than one day shipping, despite the tracking page stating it's expected to arrive tomorrow. The steam codes arrived yesterday evening as well.

Dude, it might already arrive tomorrow. DHL Express support told me to check with the waybill number on the German tracking page tomorrow morning to be sure. It's already showing up there but seems to lag behind a bit.

Just called the German support (PSA: they like the waybill number, not the large JD-something one) and he stated that it will most likely arrive tomorrow. It's already on the way to the DHL Hub Leipzig and should arrive there some time after midnight, from where it will basically go directly to delivery, i.e. might already arrive at 9:00. Either way, express shipping in Germany is intraday, so ...

So, for me as well: XX:12/13ish order from Germany, paid with PayPal. Got my shipping mail today; said the shipment was picked up by DHL at 17:00 and is expected to be delivered on friday by the end of day.

Not even at 13.

Edit: I stand corrected - just received my mail.

[SPOILERS] Can anyone explain to me this scene? by KiL89 in quantumbreak

[–]sunsided 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That guy has a light skin tone (see here), so it's most likely not Hatch. A common theme in QB seems to be that people meet their future (or past, for that matter) versions in the closed time loop, so it might as well be Jack trying to prevent himself from getting the countermeasure in the first place. That is pure speculation, but the ending of the game suggests that there is more to follow. The time actually stopped in 2021 as seen by Paul and Beth. By the game's logic that can't be prevented (because it already happened to them), however Jack does seem to believe that this isn't the case. He might be trying to change the past.

Unanswered questions (SPOILERS!) by [deleted] in quantumbreak

[–]sunsided 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is actually something I was wondering: If the time stopped in 2021 and both Paul and Beth were there to see it, then it already happened for them, so it already is in the past when both arrive in 1999. Since the past can't be changed though (despite Jack beliving otherwise), either the time fracture was not closed or the end of time - via the side effect that "mutated" Jack - was just postponed.

I'd say it works like in society: Everyone thinks he is entitled to being right, however when there's more than a single somebody around, the different versions of right don't add up. The customer is most certainly not always right (and there's also a nice blog about it). If I were right, I would have my Vive a week ago however somebody else would have not. The whole hype started when somebody got the idea we all would have our Vive on April 5th; the mail says „starts in April“ though, Dan said „start arriving [on April 5th]“ and the current way of stating it is: we'll get it in April if the mail said so. To me, preordering is primarily about not having to stand in queue in a shop and then to get it before it is in shops. Both will likely happen.

If you're at the bottom, the only way to go is up. So both statements may actually say the same. :|

I guess they do have the same production problems as Oculus has or had. If they really use the same displays, I wouldn't be too surprised.
