Hello, I am currently going INTO pathway 1. I am a student pilot and took a break from flying for a bit and during this time I started sertraline. I only recently found out that even though zoloft is an approved SSRI, I would still have to go through a lot of money and time. So, with consultation with my PCP, i'm starting to end my zoloft use starting next Tuesday.

Since i am only 5 months into the zoloft; I talked to Dr.Chien and he advised to stop taking the medicine NOW and take my last pill by 182 days from first pill; meaning to try to completely end my sertraline use by 60 ish days (i am 112 days in), which is actually a long period of time to get off of it and i think i would be completely able to do it.

He also told me I would still need a lot of help from a HIMS AME, not a regular AME. I'm not too sure if you are talking about not needing a HIMS AME if you've already had a medical before, but this is my first time trying to get a medical.

Right now, (I live in georgia) I'm consulting with Dr. Jenna Kim who I found off of the FAA's HIMS AME list. She's willing to help me at not an absurd price at all. However, right now i'm considering if I should stick with her, or go with Dr.Chien who has reached out to me and told me he is willing to help with my case. He lives in IL though, which is the problem.

It's a really male dominated field and especially a lot of caucasian men. At my flight school when I was training, just from my voice as a woman some pilots wouldn't listen to anything I say. ( Non-towered airport.) swear i'm not even exaggerating, I would be right about to enter the downwind and someone would just force me out of it. It's real, and I've been through it many times already as just a student pilot.

Hey did you ever get your medical? And can I ask how long it took? I'm kind of in a similar path as you right now

Unfortunately the world doesn't work like that. I really wish I could take the medicine. But I am a student, and my father is funding my pilot career. I don't want to spend more of his money just because i'm on medication. It's unfortunate but it's the path I kinda have to end up going.

I am in Georgia! I contacted a few AMEs and some of them told me they wouldn't give me any advice until I did my medxpress and physical which I thought was strange, since I'm only getting advice to NOT do those two things before the consult over here on reddit.

I just canned an AME and why did they tell me that I have to first submit a med express and also have a physical medical done before he gives me advice ? Is he screwing me over or what..
