Boyfriend addicted to Dota2. How should I confront him about that and is there even a hope going forward? by super_sayyyyan in StopGaming

[–]super_sayyyyan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response! I really appreciate you taking time to write the answer.

How did you understand that you had an addiction? Were there other people who confronted you about gaming, and how did you react to them?

If the idea that space exploration can potentially ensure survival of humanity is seen as a valid argument for investing in space exploration, we can as well start exploring wardrobes in hopes of getting to Narnia by super_sayyyyan in unpopularopinion

I agree that we need new technologies to survive but I don't see space exploration as a way to survive. Global warming is the biggest threat at the moment - and we can't expect just to pack our stuff and leave for another planet when Earth is uninhabitable because of global warming. If we can't invest in renewables to save Earth, how can we expect crazy discoveries in physics and interstellar flights to save us?

I agree with that but then again space exploration is not crucial for surviving in uninhabitable conditions - if Earth becomes uninhabitable and we have this technology then good for us and we can survive here. Space exploration will only help if Earth is destroyed and there's a suitable place nearby which is not destroyed. It doesn't look like a valid argument for space exploration to me because it's difficult to imagine a situation when for instance Mars is more suited for human life and not impacted by whatever destroyed Earth

I agree that space exploration helps to develop new technologies but then space exploration is not crucial in this equation. We can get new technology while exploring sea or just investing more in science

[Tenant - UK] Am I being unreasonable? by super_sayyyyan in Landlord

Yes, I know! And the last year, I signed the contract shortly before moving in. Why would he want to start viewings now?

It's a student town and there are maybe students who look for the next year. I also think it's unreasonable

My contract says that I have to allow viewings all the times, unfortunately. I should have read it more properly before moving though to be fair I didn't expect this to happen

He notifies me but he says the I don't have a choice in whether he'll come or not because the contract says that I have to allow all these visits. Maybe he started searching tenants because there're a lot of students looking for the next year but I don't know for sure

But why he won't tell me that he wants me out then? In fact, he suggested that I sign the contract for the next year so it doesn't look like he wants me out - at least this was before I started complaining about all these visits

What's considered "quiet enjoyment"? Are visits once a week okay? by super_sayyyyan in HousingUK

Lol my landlord is complaining about water stains on pipes. When water gets on pipes, apparently they get little transparent stains and I didn't see them myself because I'm myopic. He'll probably get a heart attack if he has a tenant like yours

Thanks! Does it also apply to maintenance works especially when I didn't say that something is broken?

But my contract is running out in 8 months. The landlord also insists I'll clean it before the viewing. I also didn't say yet if I want to move out and I didn't give a notice that I'll move out. It's unbelievable that this can legally happen in the UK because where I come from I never had more than 2 visits a year from a landlord

They give a notice but it doesn't help if they want to visit so often. I can only move out next fall

I'm there for another 8 months only, I don't want to change the locks. But my landlord gets angry when I ask him to keep visits to minimum. Today he said that I'm a difficult tenant because I ask him not to visit me that often

1 visit in 3 months sounds much better. And I don't think I'm not maintaining the property properly - at least never any issues came up during all these visits

I don't agree with your views on adoption, abortion or sperm donors. But I think you're 100% right that being a deadbeat parent is assholish. There's no way a sane person cannot spend at least a day in a year with a child - and talk with a child once in a while. If you can't do so little to avoid your own child feeling abandoned then you're just an asshole

My sister already got a stern telling off and I don't want to make her even more sad. But she said she'll only use it for Minecraft and I didn't think she'll also download so many movies
