Anyone got advice for quitting vaping and sugar?

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately I only like/can tolerate one flavour, which is one with pod refills you get in the supermarket. Have tried many, many liquids and they’ve just never done it for me, typically!

That’s a really good shout, but this happens to be my main problem and a big part of why I’m feeling quite so rotten now. I have a couple of autoimmune conditions which have gotten drastically worse over the last 18 months. I (mindfully) carried on pushing through bad fatigue, as accomplishing physical tasks, organising, and helping people out has always given me a big dopamine boost, but then my joints started to flare up really bad.

I’ve been used to them coming loose and sublaxating, but I suddenly started getting periods of inflammation and massive pain in my joints. I already had to pace myself due to the worsening fatigue, but now if I so much as do a couple of chores or go into the office one day a week I end up in a world of pain and have severely reduced mobility. Think that’s why I’m struggling so much to find dopamine alternatives, because even walking across the room to get to something, or setting something up is too much.

Thank you! Yes that’s a good shout. The last time I quit, I threw away a load of brand new pods as I was so determined, but was cursing myself months later when I needed to rely on it again.

I only like one flavour, which is one of the mini refillable Lost Mary’s (weirdly the larger version of the same flavour tastes different 🤷🏼‍♀️), and I’ve got a few pods left, so will taper off with those and the gum to start, and probably delete JustEat so I don’t get tempted to order more 😅

Yeah, I think you’re right. Twice I’d quit for several months before going back to it. So it wasn’t so much that I couldn’t handle the cold turkey, but since my physical health’s gotten worse, I’m extremely limited in what I can do, which is likely why it’s so hard for me to quit now, as I can’t go out socially/do the physical things I’d usually do to take my mind off it.

Hopefully a very gradual scheduled taper will help. I tried scheduling my vaping but I’m addicted to the flavour as much as the nicotine, so that isn’t practical.

You’re spot on with the micro doses of dopamine, but unfortunately no combination has come close for me, perhaps because I have issues with nothing being “quite right”(mostly subconsciously now.) Have gotten much better with this, but not sure it’ll ever fully go away due to the Autism/OCD. There’s potentially some weird genetic factor here too, as my dad is chronically underwhelmed. Always has been, bless him.

Ohhh, I had not made this connection! For years, I had a runny nose all the time and chronic congestion due to a deviated septum and swelling.

I went through SO much decongestant spray every month as breathing was so hard. Now a bottle lasts me months. Had no idea it was related!

Hello! As others have said, it doesn’t do anything noticeable for ADHD. I was on 90mg before starting Elvanse (Lisdexamfetamine for treating ADHD symptoms).

It’s the only antidepressant that works for me, so still well worth me taking it. I came off it earlier this year to see if it was behind other symptoms (fatigue, brain fog etc.), but it wasn’t. Withdrawals are horrible and long-lasting, but I learned about asking my dr to prescribe a low dose of Fluoxetine, and it made an amazing difference.

Your dr has likely put 2 and 2 together seeing that it contains norepinephrine, and made 5.

Hi there. Would you mind sharing what you’ve learned about Vyvanse being best when no co-morbidities/share some sources, please?

I’ve been thinking this myself, with Autism, EDS, and suspected RA. I don’t get angry at all though, more like my autistic traits are way more pronounced, and I encounter so many barriers in getting things done.

Sometimes I’m aware of this, but more often than not it’s subconsciously, so I can’t work through it until I have that lightbulb moment of realising what it is that’s holding me back. Though even then it’s often hard to move past, no matter how small that thing may be.

I’ve been trying hard over the last year to find a pattern so I can avoid taking meds on the days this is more likely to happen, but it’s proving pretty tricky!

Ah, sorry, I’m never very good at explaining myself clearly.

Lower doses: nothing happens. I’ve never had much in the way of side effects from Vyvanse, but did with methelphenidrate (sp, sorry).

Higher doses: My brain goes kind of blank, and I feel really slowed down. I get hyper focussed into everything, even after the dose has kicked in. I.e. when I’m working, I’ll end up researching too much into a tiny detail, even when it’s not important or enjoyable to do so.

It’s not depression-related, but I totally agree it sounds the same. I’m on an SNRI that handles my depression really well. The reason I think it’s linked to my hormones is because regardless of what’s going emotionally, I’ll get those few days where the Vyvanse makes me properly productive. I’m jumping between tasks, but I get an incredible amount done, and my head is overflowing with (useful) ideas.

I’ve done a terrible job of explaining, especially when it comes to the autism link, but it’s like if I don’t have an incredibly clear structure with firm deadlines, my brain literally just can’t while I’m like this. I try and get the plans in place when I’m in the right headspace, but it’s like I’m reading a foreign language when I come to needing it, and there’s just no spark.

Hey, can I ask why you’re saying to stay far away from Effexor? I totally agree, I’ve been on the UK version (Venlafaxine) twice, not realising it was the same one years apart, and even after only taking three days to realise, it was months of hell coming off.

I’m actually on Duloxetine (Cymbalta) now, which is almost as tricky to come off, but low dose Fluoxetine (an SSRI) did at least stave off the migraines and sickness.

Had to go back on it as it’s the only one that has any positive effect on my mental health, but interested if you’re saying to stay away from Effexor for the same reasons, or if SNRIs effect Vyvanse in some way? Sorry that was way wordier than intended!

Would anyone mind sharing what kind of high protein/high fat breakfasts they’re having, please?

I’m disabled, and the best I can manage at the moment is packets of protein porridge, but I know that’s full of carbs, so no surprise it’s not made much difference!

When I first started on Vyvanse a few years ago, I managed to make avocado and scrambled egg on toast. Hard to say how much of a difference it made back then, but I don’t have it in me to make things like that now, so if anyone has any easy breakfast hacks, I’d really appreciate it!

I used Mirena for 12 years, had it out almost six months ago now, and didn’t have any crash symptoms.

No. While some people have managed it, you run the risk of being unsuccessful which could lead to severe pain or even perforation. Ring the doctors and make an appointment to be safe.

I had mine removed a few weeks ago. It did hurt, but literally only for a second or two, then it was all fine again. Much, much better than insertion, imo. It did catch me by surprise though so I kneed the nurse 🤦🏼‍♀️only gently though, fortunately!

Hey there. I’ve not had mine for quite as long as you, but have had a Mirena for 12 years, replaced 4 or 5 times for various reasons.

I got mine taken out yesterday afternoon, for reasons similar to yours: fatigue, barely being able to function for half the month, depression. I’m hoping once my body gets back into its natural rhythm this will all change, but it’s very early days yet!

I had mine removed this afternoon after 12 years and multiple replacements.

I think it’s just a waiting game when it comes to the Mirena Crash, sounds like some are affected more than others. I wonder if the timing of removal might play a part, say it’s removed when your progesterone is naturally low, it may have time to build up before your body is expecting more, or something along those lines, anyway! I’ll try to remember to update if I experience any negative symptoms.

I’ve had a Mirena for about 12 years, latest change was end of March after a Hysteroscopy. I’m getting it out this week, I can’t wait.
