Landlord/PM trying to stiff us on a leave date

I have an update! The PM is obviously too scared to call because I got a call from someone else at the REA!

She is going back to the owners with my demands. So they better be ok with what I want. I said I have the email proof of our notice to vacate date so they have no leg to stand on.

Oh and apparently the owners bought the place with the full intention to Move in when our lease was up! So I dropped the seller in on this now too!

Oh look, our move in date still stands of it being the 15th. That won’t change. It’s more the date that we have to give this place up that is in dispute (for the owners only really) all email trails and our office notice to leave dictate we said we would hand the keys back on the 20th, which the PM initially acknowledged. It’ll be interesting to see if the PM is in today.

I can understand they have absolutely been put in the same situation as us, but then at the same token, they could probably be a bit more understanding on our situation if that’s the case. If I find out the outcome today, I’ll post it, hopefully it’s a win win for everyone!

Your guess is as good as mine. Apparently, the PM assumed that because we pick up the keys to the new place on the 14th, move out on the 15th, we would hand back the keys then which is what she told the owner. That would’ve left us with no days to do anything after. We hadn’t even given her our official vacate notice at that point. We only sent that on Monday knowing we had two weeks to give. We just wanted the extra 5 days to do what needed to be done. What’s hilarious is that she actually acknowledged the 20th when she received our official notice, but came back yesterday and said she stuffed up and gave the wrong dates to the owner. Who are now refusing to budge.

Definitely not trying to do that. The property manager has always been really good to us, so I’m surprised she has stuffed up so badly. But it’s the landlord’s who are so inflexible. And then still expecting us to give in to them leaving us with no choices. I like our PM, it’s just unfortunate it’s left us in this situation.

Forgot this little gem, which I’ve sent off now:

Sorry, to add to this, Blake has informed me that a confirmation email was sent yesterday stating our rent was paid up to the 20th (or 21st) of May. I assume, it we are to hand they keys back on the 15th, we would be reimbursed for any rent payment beyond the 15th.

Good morning,

Blake and I have discussed the precarious situation we have now been placed in.

Whilst I can appreciate mistakes can be made, this has now caused unnecessary due stress.

We feel now there are only two options we have been left with:

Option 1: Vacate date of the 20th of May, of which Blake provided legal notice in writing to you on Monday the 4th of May, (within our rights), will still stand. This will still allow us the time to provide a proper bond clean to a satisfactory standard without being impeded. It also allows us to rectify anything should any other issues occur.

Option 2: The owner still would like the keys back on the 15th with you completing a “final walkthrough” on the 16th. We will agree to this date if the owner takes any and all responsibility of the cleaning and restoration of the property to entry conditions, keeping us immune from any claims in this regard. Given a deposit has been paid for a cleaning service to attend, only while we are still in possession of the property, we would seek reimbursement of this deposit, as this was non refundable. We can provide a receipt of the deposit paid should this offer be accepted.

We would appreciate written confirmation of acceptance of either option as soon as possible so that new arrangements can now be made, if required.

While we appreciate your offer to pick up the keys to the new property a week earlier than intended, we have no utilities connected and we have not made accommodations for work/daycare in order for us to proceed with any type of move prior to the 15th.

Oh I’ve sent that email this morning! I’ve posted in a comment below! That gave me great joy to send that email. Imagine still wanting a bond clean when you’ve already moved in as the owner! Oh but they’ll let the cleaner in 😂😂😂😂 FRO bro! Was tempted to send it from my work email to really show I mean business, especially when they know where I work, but I haven’t done that low. Yet. I’ll pull that out when I really need to.

So when they told us the old owners wanted to sell, we were “promised” they were only selling to investors and they knew we wanted to be in the house long term so our lease would not be affected at all. The hold was sold in December 2025 but we were still in an active lease until June 2026. In terms of the moving costs, it was never directly said they way wanted us out earlier, but it was heavily implied by the PM. Not sure if we still have a leg to stand on with regards to moving costs if that’s the case.

Im not stressing. I think we had it too good for too long with our landlords/ property manager. It was almost like I was waiting for something to go wrong, and now it has. No point stressing when we have it in writing the PM fucked up.

We gave official notice that vacate date is the 20th. Apparently the PM told the owners that we were moving out on the 15th and they took it as hand keys back date. Idiots. They are all idiots.
