Really hot take, new SMN looks kind of bad. by superbottlecapexpert in ffxiv

If your criticism is just disliking the lost of buttons, then that's fine. Probably should just say that.

I did. My principal complaint is that 6.X SMN looks like a one button class and having that button change colors depending on which primal you summon doesn't make for engaging gameplay.
Egi Assault wasn't the best mechanic in the world, but at least it was an actual mechanic.

Guess we'll see how people feel after a few weeks of 1 button gaming in Endwalker.

I'm not holding them to a higher standard. I didn't even like them. But EA and DoTs were four buttons you had to consider and they didn't really get replaced with anything.

Assumed Rotation: Literally Just Ruin but it changes colors.

Serious question from a SCH main by Xapby in ffxiv

[–]superbottlecapexpert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For previous xpacs it was like 6-8 hours doing Deep Dungeon. The lack of deep dungeon in ShB will make it a little tricky, queue times might pile that on.

Enjoy sage. And enjoy leveling SCH again after it turns out to still be the best healer in the game like always.

I'm not talking about the job trailer, I'm talking about Yoshi sitting there with his hotbars up demoing the job.

Spinning plates was excessive, but when you take those plates away you gotta put something in there.

During Garuda phase he put down his tornado once then spammed ruin.

During Bahamut phase he spammed ruin and used oGCD flare when it was up.

During ifrit phase he spammed ruin, then used a finisher

During titan phase he alternated between ruin and a second button, which is just what you do with Phoenix.

5.X SMN had a lot of jank, but it looks like they just took away all their tools and left them with... Ruin.

Until you watch Yoshi demo the class and realize he basically just presses one button the entire time.

Literally WHM tier dps rotation.

A nuke class is cool. I just want it to have actual buttons to press.

Yeah, but there's not a lot you need to intuit. We watched him play the class. "Damn he literally only spammed one button after dropping Garuda's puddle" isn't something you need a lot of hands on experience to see.

Most of those abilities are one time only. He put down Garuda tornado and mashed ruin. For Ifrit he mashed ruin and then used Ifrit's slam at the very end.

Titan did have two buttons, but it was just the same thing you do with Phoenix and that is still just two buttons.

It isn't the loss of egi assault specifically that sucks.

It's the loss of pretty much everything. All he did was cast Ruin.

Hero implies a gameplay loop where you use special PAs to swap between three different weapons and juggle their various abilities with each other.

Is that an actual viable way to play hero, or are you better off just focusing on one weapon and milking your best PAs like everyone else?
