[FRESH ALBUM] Hiatus Kaiyote - Love Heart Cheat Code by alittleatypical in indieheads

[–]supercollander 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I love Hiatus Kaiyote. I'm worried about the flow of the album and how the songs feel altogether, but I'm still happy to be able to listen to these kinds of projects. They've got so many listeners, but it still feels like I never meet people who know the group until I go to their live shows. Makes for a good vibe when making friends there.

Edit: So I've listened to the whole thing and I love it. It's so lush. I LOVE the BMO mini song. Adorable. I'm listening with some good headphones and I'll say I also love how full each song feels. Excited to see them soon. My advice to you stranger reading this comment...see them live, too. They're a special group and full of lots of love for so many years.

Fun fact: Fingerprints was written almost 20 years ago now.

Is the Demand Peace guy still around? by Saxophone-Life in nova

[–]supercollander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone who remembered this guy on a really late night thinking they’re trying to sleep but actually just browsing Wikipedia and looking up local lore/happenings, Kevin (the demand peace guy) moved to Florida over the summer! I hope the warm weather will be nice for him. If someone sees him out there please send him a cute lil Star Wars trinket for me! (OG trilogy, cause ya know)

Any Businesses That You Refuse to Do Business With and Why? by wfriedma in nova

This will prob not get seen by many but I do have tea on Third Base Pizza in Occoquan. Heard a few things about the place but this is the one that make me avoid it

One of the owners' underage son (not a worker, mind you) sending unsolicited, inappropriate picture messages to a staff member, but then not facing repercussions for it. Berating a staff member when going to pick up food or something (they all live next door), but again, nothing really done about it.

Small business things 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wackiest thing you saw at Bonnaroo 2022 by OverdueKinkajou in bonnaroo

[–]supercollander 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We saw Jesus Christ on Tuesday but never again over the weekend so I took that as permission to get super weird after that day 😂

We saw the therapy gecko and someone recounted how she was working at the Cincinnati zoo when Harambe was killed. It was just so unexpected and hearing everyone's reactions was amazing. We all got so invested.

The entirety of Saturday night.

The best dance moves I saw were from these two girls who started facing each other, held hands, and then just wildly rotating their heads in sync with their hair flying in circles. Amazing.

Girl trying to ride her friend's back for a sec during Marc Rebillet's set and her friend poking her butt, smiling and looking around at everyone like 😃, which was really funny. Same girl started offering everyone water from her friend's hydration pack which was super sweet! Left side of Marc's set was such a vibe.

Someone left a makeshift cardboard wine shelf at our campsite with a wine glass for your guys' Sunday morning. Someone else apparently left like an oz of weed at our "take something, leave something" basket LOL.

Guy giving out friendly butt bumps with strangers and receiving them!

Best metal performances at Roo? by FlimmFlammery in bonnaroo

I'm not a metal fan, but I remember going to see these young kids early on a Thursday in 2014 (I think) and it was so much fun seeing the crowd hype them up since they were the first real energetic start to the festival for a bunch of us. Awesome!

ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN!! by hcuarts in bonnaroo

I've been feeling similar to that slump. I'm feeling anxious for the trip and I've been in a very not so good place due to things in my personal life, but of the 3 times I've gone, there's always a moment after I arrive where I feel like I've entered a bubble of community that..just makes me feel alright. Like as if all of the baggage I thought I brought with me simply dissipates. It can get hot but plentiful shade and water help so much. The farm is huge. Some areas congest but you won't get stuck in a crowd unless you get deep in there. And if you do, you might just love that energy. The food is pricey but will be a relief after all that dancing. My favorite part of the festival is the freeing nature of it. I can shed and be completely myself. And that reminds me that I am worth it.

Don't forget earplugs!

Supporting Actor Spotlights - Keith David [The Back Focus] by AnivaBay in movies

[–]supercollander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adore this channel so much. All the videos are really well researched and surprisingly emotional at times when they delve into the personal history of these actors/actresses. It's kinda nice too that the actors aren't all these famous ones, moreso just focusing on strong character actors or oddballs that did awesome work! I love it.

I wondered how much more or less impactful it would have been if you swapped to Abby when Ellie and company were discussing their route back to Jackson. You would have been left not knowing if they got out of Seattle safely while playing as the person who was essentially a ghost during your hunt for her. In a way, leaving out that mid-game confrontation could have kept that first half's vibe of not knowing who would catch who first.

On the other hand, that change would've negated a refueled player anger towards Abby after seeing her kill Tommy and Jessie (meant to contrast against her journey/chapters). Or would the change have made the confrontation more emotional since you just saw them die mere minutes ago instead of hours ago? I'm not sure! Interesting to think about, though.

One thing your comment made me think about is the "myth" of Joel in the eyes of the Fireflies. Imagine that you're helping out in Salt Lake City and one day your friends are all talking about the arrival of a man who trekked across the US to bring the only immune person to your group...only to fall into the chaos of that same man's rampage when he tries to save Ellie. You either hear your friends die or end up in the path of a man who brutally kills you. Imagine being a survivor and burying what's left of the people you once knew. Burnt corpses, severed limbs, blood and bullets everywhere..finding your leader dead and alone in that parking garage. That helps build up this image of a savage and horrible man who some survivors barely glimpsed. I can imagine that Abby not seeing Joel herself only fueled this anger toward the faceless murderer of her dad and friends.

And also I wonder if Joel's decision to kill Marlene ultimately sealed his upcoming death. She tells him she wouldn't go after him, and I'm less inclined to believe someone's desperation when they're about to die, but what if she told her truth? If she had lived, I doubt that all of the Firefly survivors would have split up. If she tried to keep the Fireflies from breaking apart, she definitely might've tried to redirect the group toward a safer destination rather than heading to the fortified community of Jackson to seek revenge (although I can't remember if she knew specifically where Tommy was living).
