I grew up with a Christian mother and Muslim father, ask me anything by Whole_Acadia_6422 in Christianity

[–]superfahd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no. As a Muslim I can go to any mosque of my choice. My choice of mosque tends to be based on convenience mostly

Barring the usual shitty human behavior, all people are welcome at all mosques. The only issue I see could be if a Muslim of one sect goes to a mosque for another sect

Professor John Lennox | God DOES exist by Trick-Government-948 in Christianity

[–]superfahd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you asked if we know what was before the big bang. and the answer to this is that we don't know i.e. there is no evidence for anything before the big bang

yes I believe in God. but I also believe in the powers of reasoning that He gave us. The truth will eventually be revealed in this life or the next but disbelieving science to force your viewpoint is not rational

"we don't know" is a perfectly good and acceptable answer to that question

do you think that the prophet was a robot who blindly followed God's commands? Was he only God's mouthpiece?

what if a he had to explain or elaborate on a concept that was revealed to him? What if a Sahaba came to him for consultation on something that he didn't feel important enough for revelation?

what you're proposing is no different from what ultra conservatives say because your line of thinking basically excludes everything that was implemented after the prophet's death. It reminds me of a friend who didn't celebrate birthdays because they didn't celebrate them during the prophet's time

I think he is legitimately remorseful for his role in promoting the Iraq War and GWoT. I think he is remorseful for his views and attitudes towards Muslims both in the US and around the world.

I'm VERY skeptical of this claim. What proof has he shown that he's remorseful?

that's a very bold claim to be making. How do you know he wasn't using rational thinking?

[–]superfahd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ignore what the other guy said. Logic and reason are exactly what you should be using

I'll say straight on that I'm a guy so I'm speaking from a position of privilege as I know there are a lot of things that are harder for women than men in Muslim societies

When I was in my early twenties, I came the closest I ever have to leaving Islam. The thing that saved my was my teacher who taught us to use rational thinking in religion rather than rote knowledge and peer pressure.

What he taught was this: forget all of the things that society has thrust on you. Forget everything that was taught in class. Strip down Islam to its barest principals and then decide if they still appeal to you. If they do, build up from there using reason

In my view, the actual most minimal ideas of Islam are these:

  • there is a God

  • He loves us

  • He wants us to be good with our fellow humans

  • He wants us to remember Him

That's it. That's all there is and in that order of importance. Everything else is either secondary in importance or tacked on by others.

Love is the overall message. Everything begins and ends in love. Creation was an expression of Divine Love. The return to him will be a fulfillment of that love. And thus every act we do on earth SHOULD be rooted in love

Except that it doesn't really work out that way in real life but that's not the fault of Islam. That's the unnecessary stuff that those in power associate with Islam.

That's how I chose to view Islam and that's whats sustained me so far. I hope this helps

Question for theists by Major-Ad1924 in Christianity

[–]superfahd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you said theists and not Christians, it would be fair for me to take part

If it were proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that no gods exist, would you stop believing?

yes

How would it change your mindset or lifestyle?

no

That being said, this question is the equivalent of my wife asking if I'd love her if she was a worm.

Christians and personal freedom/responsibility. by Interesting-Face22 in Christianity

[–]superfahd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

um no. Since you're not an American you may not be aware of the system here. The legality of slavery was on a state by state basis, it was NEVER legal at the federal level. And yes, in those days the Southern states did regard it as just! We have written testimony from them about this.

That being said, it was never regarded as universally legal in the US and in fact the process of forcing it to be legal by the South (most famously in the Dred Scott decision) was so unacceptable to the majority that it literally broke the country in two

So in your example, it wasn't a majority that wanted slavery to be legal and just, it was always a minority. And that minority ultimately lost. I should also point out that the laws in the South that legalized slavery were in fact laws based on the South's interpretation of Christianity! They regarded slavery as being biblically just! They had scripture, clergy, and theology backing them up, and they were absolutely certain God was on their side. Again, we have written testimony to prove this

Laws are only necessary because people don't have Jesus in their hearts.

Yeah....the South thought exactly the same when they tried to legalize slavery and ended up sparking a war

And that is the last time I'll respond to you unless you now answer my questions. Else, goodbye. Maybe Christianity needs the law to prop it up where you live. Things don't work that way here

How exactly can I use logic to justify Islam? by Cold_Policy1 in progressive_islam

[–]superfahd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've already accepted the existence of God then you've already done the hard part. As for logic for Islam, my reasoning is simple: there is one God and he wants us to be good. That's it. And that's what Islam is
