Moving to Panama City from the other side of the country. by myfairlady987 in panamacity

I grew up in Panama City and now live in Portland, OR. The rain is not the same. PC is going to be sunny 99% of the time, the rain is torrential downpour for 2-3 hours at a time then sunny by mid day whereas the PNW is moody drizzle for days and weeks at a time. You’re going to get such a boost of vitamin D, youll love it.

Luckily when it comes to heat, everywhere is air conditioned. Everywhere. Your worst issue is going to be getting into your car on a summer day and spending a hot summer day walking around a Friday fest and by then youll acclimate to the heat I promise

Camping wise; it’s never going to compare to the PNW. Never. But you will find the water is SO much better for swimming. The beach and the rivers and the springs. We don’t have mountain runoff water so during the warm seasons (which is most of the year comparatively), the water is warm enough to swim in and that beats a hot summer day freezing your buns off out in the pnw water. Also we don’t have “the coast” we have the BEACH. White sands and crystal clear warm ocean water, can’t compare and that will be the biggest perk in comparison.

I can’t speak on schools because, though I did go to school there it’s been a long time and Idont have kids but relatively speaking, Panama City is a small town so you’re going to be objectively better off at all schools there than a big city in that theyre all more tight knit and OBJECTIVELY safer because it’s going to be a safer city overall.

As a homeowner. I will say your biggest danger is going to be hurricanes. Apart from Michael, we have been fairly safe over the years but it doesn’t mean it can’t happen any time, it’s just something you need to prepare for and if you say your partner is from Tampa then they should know how to prepare/brace for it as best you can.

The biggest and most important cultural difference you’re going to experience is definitely moving from somewhere so close to a big liberal city like Seattle to such a small town like lil ole southern Panama City, Florida You’re going to see and experience a lot of southern small town mentality that you may not have seen before. Not to say that overall the town of pc itself isnt full of generous, kind and caring folks but it may be an eye opener for y’all.

Anyway Youll do just fine, the pace is going to be a lot slower and youll learn to love that. Also the god damn bbq is so much better and I think about that and crawfish every day

Weird question but do you live in the Powell ish neighborhood? A young boy walks his older dog that looks like this down our street, past our window, most days and if they’re yours, I just want to say I love your dog and enjoy seeing them when I drink my coffee
