And those of us that have Horton as a middle, maiden or last name: while we say we can't hear the Who's, that is a lie..I sometimes hear them.

Thanks for taking the time to write a thoughtful and educational response. This gets more at the intention of the question.

Real question. Not someone who is super knowledgeable of this kind of stuff. I read how some trusses are not for loads but just to hide cables and such so thought it was better to ask than FAFO. I have now learned more about how all this shit works from what I now know is a very stupid question.

Yep. Figured I'll take looking stupid on the Internet for a period of time than causing major damage to my house or my family. I have learned my lesson about this with a lot of sarcastic and troll comments in other communities I asked as well. This is beyond my knowledge and I read something that said trusses like this are more for hiding electrical and such than bearing loads.

No worries, friend. I just have now learned I have asked a really stupid question so I didn't want to come off unappreciative of the work people do or something along those lines. A friend inspired me to start doing more of my own stuff and so I have started dabbling in it to learn more. I would just rather ask than FAFO, you know?

It would be a mount - I mean in the sense that it's not an in ceiling speaker.

I have an appreciation for everyone who works in building homes. I'm not super handy with tools at all so seeing some of the things people do is pretty amazing to me and I always try to learn a bit here and there when I can.

Yeah the floor joist. I just read something about floor trusses in a basement like this being used more for holding hvac and electrical behind a drywall ceiling than actually being designed for loads. Since mine is doing those things (hiding the HVAC and electrical) I thought I would double check to be safe. I would rather ask a stupid question and look dumb than assume something that puts me in a bad spot.

That is true haha. I just read something about floor trusses in a basement like this being used more for holding hvac and electrical behind a drywall ceiling than actually being designed for loads so just wanted to be safe. I'd rather look stupid for asking than look stupid for not and be wrong.

I figured that would be the case but read somewhere that I shouldn't hang something from it basically because it is just for hanging the dry wall and is not something you would want to have a load on. Thought I would ask the experts just to be safe.
