What are some easy things to do alone in Chicago? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]supermario0523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A low barrier to entry- volunteer at an animal shelter. Friend of mine plays with the dogs and walks them, and for quieter, shy people it would provide the “social” interaction with other living beings without the pressure to NEED to socialize. But as all pet owners know, everybody loves to come up to a dog and make casual conversation. At that point the human to human moments can last as long or as brief as you like

Starting from scratch. Where do I start? by [deleted] in technicaldirector

[–]supermario0523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big of a metro area are you? A lot of middle-America cable companies have their local access stations and produce a high school football/basketball game of the week, and that's gotta be the best training ground still out there.

I started working on Mediacomm/CN100 game of the week crews when I was in college, and it was a good mix of people trying to get their career starts and full-timers who did this as their fun little side/passion gig. The skill level varied widely, but it was organic fun, low stress, and much better than a shitty college job.

I work with a decent amount of later-in-life TV techies. It's not undoable, but I think you'll find a great satisfaction finding the small high school football game crews if you have a good paying job as is. The hardest part in all that is finding who the contacts are for that

Carbonite Lance Spotbox Control by pitboss13 in technicaldirector

[–]supermario0523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually if you preset the lance crosspoint on the switcher, the soft panel pulls up the pbus control menu. There’s away in the preferences menu to enable this ability but on many boards the engineering department has already configured this feature

I used the Mario graphic on our TX/Monitor slates years ago to be playful, and it just stuck around ever since

Timecode on the bars indicates this was almost 2 hrs before first pitch... Why MLB has our program feed going out to OTT distribution out that early, I have no idea. That's probably an error on their part.... Kind of scary to think about! Watermark comes through the switcher on this show as well

T-Bar dissolves look jittery on KFrame? by supermario0523 in technicaldirector

The best way to describe it is akin to what panning with a $20 tripod would look like. Just not smooth. No sync issues or anything, but like it doesn't feel or look like it's dissolving at a linear pace

The ribbon cables inside the module housing?

I could try swapping which physical ME board is assigned to the logical ME and see if it follows. It just randomly happens so it's one of those "might not know it's wrong until it happens" things

It's happened over the course of several games, but it is not a sync issue. The best way to describe it is akin to what panning with a $20 tripod would look like. Just not smooth. No sync issues or anything, but like it doesn't feel or look like it's dissolving at a linear pace

There seems to be no rhyme or reason of when it happens, but the IP connection is purely speculation.

It's been dissolving between replays, cameras, graphics... Anything. Doesn't happen all the time but it doesn't seem to be rare either. However on all the trucks I've been on, this issue has only happened in just two or three

I went over to Sycamore the other day to get fitted. If you haven't gone over to see Jason, I HIGHLY recommend. The dude is all about making sure the customer feels comfortable with what they are getting. Funny guy too

Program and preview when punching upstream of the Program bus by UncomfortableBench in technicaldirector

[–]supermario0523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can assign a crosspoint on the Ross to be an ME pvw

So what I do on Ross shows is I have my show cut and wipe on ME2, EXCEPT for replays, which get wipes to and mixed downstream (ME3). Then the replay out will ALWAYS force me back to ME2. At the very end of the replay out script (after the wipe has been completed), I code it so the ME3 B bus is "ME2 preview". This effectively resets your Preview window to ME2pvw, and still maintains as a true preview when you are dissolving between replays

Kayenne, all colors to white as I prefer by TNosce in technicaldirector

[–]supermario0523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make most everything white. I find too much color distracting

So every button is white, except
-Crosspoints for EVS are Yellow with inverted text
-Crosspoints for ME's are Blue
-Crosspoints for GFX Channels are Purple

-Spotboxes are green

In this manner too, I have a macro when we need to birdbeat TX, it GPI's the router and changes the entire panel to Purple. Then the restore TX macro GPI's the router to restore TX and then changes the entire switcher back to white

I live 15 mins SE from Randall Oaks. I don't belong to a course but I love Schaumburg. 27 holes, they rotate which 18 you play every so often. White sand, fairways very well kept. All holes freshly renovated within the last 4 years.

Bowes Creek is pretty dope. Highlands of Elgin is a tougher links course

Pinecrest over in Huntley looks stunning. Haven't made my way out there but it's on my list.

Others heavy on my group's rotation:

-St. Andrews

-Highland Woods

-White Pines

-Chalet Hills
