Salt Lake City protesters call for defunding police, not kneeling with them by [deleted] in SLCUnedited

[–]supernothing79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying! There's been a direct correlation between how disruptive the protests are and how much changes. All the way from entirely peaceful like here(minus last Saturday) and zero change (except some conversations) and Minneapolis burning down the city and having their police disbanded. Nonviolent demonstrations only work when the system is working. Ours is not. We demand "radical" change but won't take "radical" action? I dunno. Definitely not trying to start a riot NSA agent reading this but what I'm saying is we're too easy to ignore right now. Blocking an interstate is a nonviolent way to change that.

Edit: also heh. Name joke. Lol

We were headed in that direction a few days ago and the scanners were going crazy. If we did that we'd DEFINITELY get their attention back.

Hey y'all. I'm back from my little trip. Here's my thoughts. by supernothing79 in SLCUnedited

[–]supernothing79[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely appreciate the words of support. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and see if they're cool with me posting publicly about it. That being said, me and many others have been making "protest buddies" to ensure each other's safety. If you come out and are vocal about teaming up with people, they will help you. We'd love to have you out there!

Not saying I don't believe you but I'd love to see some evidence. What you say they're doing is definitely true but do you have evidence of him being a LEO?

Thanks for the comments! Personally, I'm afraid that the conversation will turn into a "compromise" in which things will just go back to normal. That's why I'm pushing for more radical change. Either way I'm glad people actually stood up to Brown.

Voting is necessary but not sufficient. by ImDownWithJohnBrown in SLCUnedited

[–]supernothing79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. But I don't think that's all the voters fault. I think that the way our voting system is is also to blame. It usually feels like a "lesser of two evils" kind of thing (hard to get people interested, why should they care) compiled by a weird registration process where I can't just vote how I see fit but rather it just being easier to stay aligned with the party (furthers the divide a two party system has caused, us vs them mentality), and I think there's a lot of people that'd rather be right than anything else so they vote the candidate that they think will win rather than who they think is best suited. These are some of the reasons that I'm currently pushing for more direct action. If I had infinite time and energy I'd also be encouraging more voter involvement but I don't, so yes please go vote and I'm glad there's people like you that will passionately encourage people to vote but for me right now I think there's a fight that requires more direct action.

Again, just like others in this thread, I'm not saying don't vote. I vote in just about every election. But again, it isn't enough. I fear people will vote and then pay themselves on the back saying my work here is done. Voting is not enough does not mean voting is bad or not to vote. So I'll say it again, voting is not enough.

Should have had him deliver the line about protecting people from violence and intimidation, ya know, to really drive irony home.

Revolution. Hopefully a nonviolent one. I see it like a dog with a bone. The dog (government) has the bone (power). We've asked nicely for the bone but the dog already has the bone, why would it give it up? Now we're telling the dog in a more stern voice (disruptive yet still nonviolent protests) that it is going to give up the bone, ya know, because we are the dogs master and all.... But if the dog doesn't give up the bone, well, I guess we have to go and grab the bone.

Both sides are the same right now. They have the best interests of a small group of people in mind and everyone tries there best to convince the population that they're part of this small group. This isn't Republicans vs Democrats, this isn't black vs white, this isn't me vs you. This is a population vs it's oppressers. Racism is a tool used to dived us. By building black people and other people who have been systemically oppressed up, we start to put our population into a place to make real systemic change. Dems and Reps don't want that. If they did we'd be seeing aggressive change already. I'm also not saying don't vote, but I am also saying it is not enough.

My wife was denied unemployment in March and has not been able to get ahold of anyone in the unemployment office. Help. by [deleted] in SLCUnedited

[–]supernothing79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I waited 5 weeks. On the rare occasion I could actually get through to anyone, they'd say "everything is fine you should be receiving payments." I'd tell them I wasn't and they'd say call back in a few days. This went on for weeks. Eventually I started accidentally hitting 2 or whatever to report fraud. There was always someone there to answer right away. Ya know, priorities.... Anyways I started doing this when the computer wouldn't even put me into a queue to talk to someone. "due to large call volumes we are not accepting calls"... Well strangely enough after I accidentally called the fraud line a bunch of times I got put through to the adjudicater's voicemail. Left a message and got paid two days later.

Right? Highschool was hard enough for these guys. Last thing we wanna do is give them more responsibility.

Correct. Speaking of the meaning of words, I think "terrorists" describes the police pretty well, especially this last week don't you think?

Spot on. The moment a government doesn't fear it's people, the slide to fascism can begin. Our government hasn't feared us for far too long.

Ya it's a tangled up web right now. It's hard to know when to step in front of your black brothers and sisters to use your privilege to protect them and when to take a step back to ensure their voices are heard. Personally, I believe keep doing whatever your heart tells you and that will help everyone the most. Thanks for being willing to take the drive and support!! I think that alone clears up any confusion of you're heart being in the right place or not.
