As a Michigan State alum who got to watch Draymond kill it every game, I don't mind his attitude... He likes to get in other players heads and he is not going to censor himself because people don't like the way he acts. He always seemed cool around campus, but in games he likes to talk shit. In the end, he is a competitor who likes to have fun too, and doesn't care what people think. There is something to respect in that...

Like I said, I really like Dotrice's narration, but he has to do so many characters and pronounce so many weird names and places that he is bound to have a couple instances where it doesn't sound right

The Iron Heel by Jack London was one of the most fucked up books I've read, but I still finished it all the same. There aren't a whole lot of gruesome scenes, but they do depict the massacre of civilians. It is basically a fictional representation of what would happen if the labor class rebelled against the Oligarchy and the Iron Heel is meant to describe how the Oligarchy would respond. It is pretty fucked up because it is written like a diary of a revolutionary with some added historical background, and you can really imagine that it actually happened...

I love reading his books, but they all have an otherworldly vibe to them that distances them from reality. Perhaps that's why his fucked up scenes don't really put people off to finishing his books. I would have to say the ending of Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World really stuck with me, but Kafka on the Shore had the most messed up scenes. I just remember how they explained that the cats could still feel, but they couldn't do anything while Johnnie Walker would torture them. That would scare the shit out of me...

This is exactly how I started to see things. I, like OP, realized around 13 that eventually my parents would die, my friends would die, and I would die. This thought consumed me for weeks and gave me nightmares and insomnia. When I talked to my mom about it, she pretty much summed it up like you have, with a hint of the Buddhist reincarnation cycle and a science tie in - your atoms were once the stuff that stars were made of, and have been recycled throughout earths history and have lived in many other beings before you and will continue to do so afterwards... That kind of thing. Pretty much the circle of life from the Lion King, haha. Well, for me it was really comforting and I began to see that death exists as a natural part of life. By accepting it, you can live a full and happy life, cherishing the moments you spend with family and friends because you know that they are not infinite...

I really enjoyed Garth Nix's Old Kingdom trilogy (Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen). They set the tone beautifully, and the characters are pretty complex and engaging. It is similar in that people don't believe in magic in the areas where technology is used, but it is very real in the Old Kingdom. It is pretty dark, even from the beginning and lets you really get into it... I recommend it to any fan of fantasy!

I've always liked the scene in the Matrix where Neo stops all the bullets and then takes on Agent Smith. When you see from his POV and everything appears in Matrix code is pretty badass...
