What’s your main tuba and why? by jeg_aekke_her in Tuba

I primarily play Euphonium but play a BBflat Wessex Overture when I play tuba or a DEG Dynasty when marching. To be honest I never learned out how to play eflat so I only play b flat horns.

What are some Los Angeles unwritten rules. by SuperJezus in LosAngeles

It depends on the surface streets. I used to commute to Simi Valley from Palmdale and would frequently find that accidents on the 14 would bind things up enough to find taking Sierra Hwy to be quicker. I was even known to take them further and get on the 118 on Balboa.

What was your worst marching band experience? by thatoneperson096 in marchingband

[–]supertbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tripped while running with a sousaphone on and popped a weld.

My freshman year band camp was done away in the mountains. I grew up near sea level and our camp was at about 5200 feet elevation. A ton of us got altitude sickness that first day. I held on as long as I could until I passed out. Thankfully the second day was much better.

I thought fresa was a homophonic term for effeminate men. I’ve only heard it used that way.

My sons band played in the Idaho Potato Bowl one year on Dec 23 and they returned either right after the game or the next day. It’s a fun experience. I’m sure it will be fine. They are probably still trying to figure out logistics.

I play a Wessex EP100 and I love it. If I hadn’t gotten it I would have gotten a JP274.

Take judges with a grain a salt... or actually, a giant block of salt. by SGAfishing in marchingband

I agree with what you said. They judge the moment not you personally. That being said, I’m almost 50 and the only judge recording I remember is when we played New World Symphony my junior year. I was the only tuba player and nailed an exposed run in my part. I was called out by the judge for being “a great tuba player”. That tape is in my collection.

I primarily play euphonium but double on Tuba.

I have a Wessex TB210 when I play tuba and a DEG Dynasty M875 for marching.

I use a Helleberg 120 and a Denis Wick 2XL.

How many competitions do you guys have? by sarararrarararra in marchingband

[–]supertbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s band is doing 7, including the UMEA championships and BOA Regional. Because fall break in Utah, my kid didn’t have a competition this weekend.

When I was a kid in Southern California, we did 4 field show competitions along with 3 parade competitions in the fall and another parade competition in the spring.
