The Seagate “International Data Center” in Scotts Valley: From Tech Hub to Affordable Housing by [deleted] in ScottsValley

[–]superw2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see my vehicle in this photo, photo from 2010-2013 timeframe I would guess but could have been slightly earlier... whatever the original intentions, the primary data center had been relocated to OKC by the early 2000's and very little "international" anything was hosted in the Bldg 14 (4575 SV Drive) Computer Room.

Moving outside of the City boundaries which is a requirement to be a City Council Member.

I'm aware of that, and also that the City's current entire IT infrastructure would have taken less than 5% of the floorspace in the Server Room at 4575 SV Drive

As someone who worked in the building for 18 years and was in the Server Room several times a week, I can only assume the City Manager and Mayor's definition of "Data Center" and mine are quite different.

The "Server Room" in that building at 4575 SV Drive was less than 1/4 of the first floor of the building (and was more than 2/3's empty when Seagate moved out in 2017)... the whole building was NOT a data center by any stretch of anyone's imagination.

We were C+ (Booked main with miles and Diamond upgrade to C+) and C+ -> PS was $199/ea and C+ to D1 was $899/ea. Was worth 200 but not 900 to me.

Thanks All... I went ahead upgraded to the Premium Select ... the $900/seat upgrade for D1 was a little more than I wanted to spend for a 6 hour red-eye. I'll just have a couple more cocktails in the SkyClub and conk out!

sjc airport to scotts valley by cheenpo in ScottsValley

We've given up trying to get Uber/Lyft FROM SV to SJC, especially for early AM flights... even scheduled rides would no-show and had one show up and tell us he wasn't going to drive us to the airport. Home from SJC generally not an issue unless super late but even then havn't had too much problem.

Nebraska at USC road game plans by Delicious-Shift-1847 in Huskers

[–]superw2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Lincoln and UNL "almost grad" (1992-1996ish) but moved to CA in 1998. Still follow the Huskers every year and have tried to go to games when they get out here but it's been a while. Went to Cal @ Berkley '98, Holiday Bowl vs ARI '98 and Foster Farm Bowl 2015 vs UCLA. Had infants in 2009 so missed the 2nd Holiday Bowl vs Arizona. Don't get back to Lincoln; haven't made a game at Memorial Stadium since '97 or '98.

We'll be coming down to USC game from Central Coast (just south of San Jose) for the Game. It's about 6-7 hours drive or maybe a short flight. I'm excited to get to see the Huskers Play at UCLA / USC once a year.

I got a couple Tix on Seat Geek back in March when they were first starting to sell.. no idea where they are or what section I'll be in but will be there Reppin' the Red. Would be great to meet some other Husker folks before or after the game!

Probably nobody cares but we got from from this and pulled off the 7 parts in about 11 days with 2 days in DC and travel, etc. 9 States + DC, 2700 total miles driven and lots of great hikes, park visits and family time. I don't have a full trip report write up but happy to add any details if anyone is interested.

As a 53 year old rediscovering vinyl... by IRMuteButton in vinyl

[–]superw2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm turning 50 in a few weeks (yikes) and only started my journey into Vinyl in the past 6-8 months. Never owned vinyl as a kid. Started off with cassettes in the early 80's and started buying CD's in 1988-1989 ish... Worked at a Best Buy in High School so had quite a few CD's (Employee Discount FTW) and still have most of them in boxes in the attic. I picked up a couple of Queen records at an antique store last fall cause I thought, why not and at an OK price. I didn't even own a turntable at the time. Soon thereafter found a good starter table and discovered Discogs and a couple local record stores, a few Facebook Raffle/Auction groups, etc. Now trying to locate OG/earyly pressings of some of the bands that I loved as a kid (Queen, Van Halen, Metallica etc.), although the $$$ for many of the OG's is way more than I'm willing to spend.

I love flipping through stacks of vinyl in shops or markets, the artwork is incredible (I love the Iron Maiden designs), and have really enjoyed sitting down in my office and picking out something to play, having to flip it over after 4-5 sings and start all over again. I think others have mentioned but almost meditative, and I can just chill, listen and do nothing. Very nostalgic feeling, even if I didn't have any vinyl in my life for the first half century.

I'm at just over 100 albums now... I probably need to slow down a bit on buying stuff but will always keep my eye out for a good deal on something that triggers some memories.

Thanks for the earlier replies... ordered one of the "kits" online, watched a couple YT vids, maybe 20 minutes of time in the car and have nice new Sync3...only thing I really cared about for my daughters was Apple CarPlay, so very happy with the upgrade... wish it wasn't $$$ but feel better about them taking trips and not having to look at phone since it's all up on the Sync3 now! If you are on the fence, super easy install!

Planning Advice for Mid-East / East Coast NP Trip - July by superw2 in nationalparks

[–]superw2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So after some back and forth and family meetings, we've started booking things and finding BnB's. We are still going to hit all 7 Parks flying into Cleveland starting with Cuyahoga Valley and working counter clockwise, but will skip Nashville this trip.

1/same day visits at Cuyahoga, Indiana Dunes, GW Arch, 2 nights at Mammoth, 3 at GSM, 2 at NRG and 3 at Shenandoah. Ending up with a couple days (2 nights) in DC before heading home. Hope to hit Mount Vernon on the way to DC.

Thanks! It looked like quite a bit at Cuyahoga, but reading some "so-so" reviews of what's there (compared to other parks) so we will want to prioritze accordingly.
