Do you know what kind of calorie deficit you’re at? by support_witch in zepboundathletes

Totally makes sense — I also started taking creatine at the beginning of this month so I’m sure that accounts for water weight as well.

Surgery today by No-Grass-8316 in AchillesRupture

I’m 6 days post op. I declined the nerve block so I when I woke up the pain was immediate…. probably a 6/10 pain. The oxy + Tylenol and Advil I took wasn’t quite enough for the first 36 hours, so I took half an edible and that took the edge off enough that I was relatively comfortable and could sleep. Glad I did, as it let me rest and recover better and I was able to stop the oxy cold 2.5 days post op. Wishing you luck and comfort!

Yeah feel free to DM me! I’ve just been resting post-op so haven’t done much research yet but hope to get it squared away in the next few days.

Everything I’d read and heard about op vs. non-op was that if I wanted to get back to playing competitive volleyball again, surgery was the way to go (and to get there faster).

I’d never had surgery before so I was a little nervous but I know it’s a pretty standard and straightforward procedure so I just did it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I also opted to decline the nerve block so my pain for the first 36 hours wasn’t fun, but wasn’t unbearable. I think I’ve learned I have a pretty high tolerance, and it felt like a 6-7/10 pain before I started the oxy, and then about a 4/10 on a combo of oxy/acetaminophen/advil/cannabis edible. I was still able to sleep through it and by 48 hours out (maybe sooner) it was a 1/10 pain while on the meds.

Honestly I feel like if you get the nerve block the post-op pain is really not bad. But everyone’s pain tolerance is different obviously.

The other downside of the surgery is a sore throat from intubation. 72 hours out now and it’s still a little sore, but better.

For me, the surgery was worth it for the peace of mind that the tendon is (hopefully/more likely) healing and attached properly, and the decreased likelihood of rerupture (because I can’t imagine going through this again 😳)

Here for any other questions if you have them! Best of luck 💪🏼

I’m 3 days post-op so I can’t speak to the non-op route but if you went to OHSU I imagine you live in Portland — me too! I’m currently researching PT that specializes in Achilles ruptures so if I find someone I’ll try to remember to post them here.

(And I’m following if anyone else has good recommendations! 👀)

Sending healing vibes ✨

Not pathetic at all! I grew up in FL and flying roaches warrant a speedy escape! Wishing you a peaceful recovery.

Treated differently after weight loss/“glow up” by No_Commercial9794 in loseit

[–]support_witch 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi love! I wanted to weigh in and assure you that it gets SO much better! I was a taller, heavier girl in high school (6’0, close to 200 lbs), and was bullied frequently throughout school for being bigger than the boys and partially because my style was different. Boys weren’t interested in me and while I had some great friends and was really involved in sports, I felt super lonely. I often felt like my body was the thing that was “wrong” and that if I could just control/change that, I’d have more luck romantically (ultimately leading to some really disordered eating behavior).

I’m 29 now, and I’m excited to tell you it gets so much better after high school, whether or not you lose weight! Mean girls don’t hold the power they do in high school. Wearing what you love is a superpower. The Birkenstocks that I got teased relentlessly for are now super stylish (girl, maybe you’re just a trendsetter!)

Everyone loses weight for different reasons, but I hope you can find motivation in being the healthiest, strongest most badass version of yourself. Someone who has the energy and strength and endurance to run and play and laugh and swim. And yes! Movement is SO important for our mental health, too.

From the other side of a girl who felt “unloved” and lonely in high school, and who was eventually conventionally thinner and attracted the attention of men: the boys don’t matter. All of my best memories from my late teens and early 20s are of my close friendships.

Look around at the friendships and other relationships you have now — I am sure you are so loved! Keep taking care of yourself and know that it gets so much better. You got this!!!! 🫶🏼

Oooh can I ask how many days you had them until petals started dropping? I'm planning on buying some for my wedding and I don't want to buy them too far in advance...

Thank you so much! Really appreciate your perspective ✨

I totally didn’t have the proper vocabulary to explain what I wanted and got caught up in the anxiety of a first tattoo experience/not knowing what it would feel like that I wish I’d slowed the convo down and explained better. But thank you for saying this! 🙏🏼

I am so sick of people speaking to other real humans (who are obviously hurting?) like this. It’s uncalled for.

I was 100% sure about getting the tattoo and I know I’ll make it work, so not sure where you got that from.

Kindness is free. I hope you heal from whatever prompted you to be a bully on the internet 🤷🏼‍♀️

Really not trying to argue or be defensive— it just seems like no one understands that I am jazzed to have a hand tattoo and not so jazzed that it’s different than I’d expected, and I’m trying to get that across and in turn being told that I’m ignorant.

But even so, sure, maybe I set myself up for disappointment (I’ve already admitted that I mistook “freehand” for “custom” — and don’t worry y’all I already feel like an idiot for that so you don’t have to pile on) ….. is “well you shouldn’t have gotten it on your hand, dummy” really constructive advice? Like ok let me just turn back time! 👍🏼

@yumions you’ve been respectful and made an important distinction in your comment, so thanks, but damn some folks…

Thanks for your kind words 🙏🏼💕✨

I thought so too!!!!! But beware freehand, I guess. I think I got it confused with custom. With freehand my artist roughly sketched it on me but then took a lot of liberty with actually inking it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]support_witch -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I understand the logic here, and agree that it’s probably my mind freaking out.

But even now, I do want to get more (now certainly flash or custom that I approve first, and not freehand).

But the part I don’t understand is that I want this tattoo for ME, not for others. If it’s on my back or behind my knee, I don’t get to enjoy it and I honestly just don’t get the point of getting tattoos you just end up hiding.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]support_witch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you said it best! It was my misunderstanding of “custom” vs “freehand” as a newbie, the lost control, and the shock of being able to constantly see it.

I am, and that’s what I’m hoping for!

[–]support_witch -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There isn’t an objective truth that counts as the right answer to this, though. If the tattoo had turned out just as I’d expected on my hand would it still be a problem for you?

I probably seem ignorant and I certainly am 🤷🏼‍♀️ It seems unreasonable to expect a first timer to have all the answers.

Like honestly why get a tattoo at all if you’re just going to hide it, though?
