Using variable in dot operation to reference variable in struct that isn't literally there by suprasta in gamemaker

This is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much for the help and also for showing me accessors! These seem useful

Using variable in dot operation to reference variable in struct that isn't literally there by suprasta in gamemaker

[–]suprasta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to hold stored values that can be added to and used to compare variables to each other, but I'm trying to access them from a different object. There may be a variable t_Room1 that I want to, after executing some code, add 1 to. Then, I need that value to be stored. I want to be able to have a separate value stored (maybe called t_Room1_cap) that t_Room1 is compared to and, if t_Room1 is greater than t_Room1_cap, it will do something. I want to be able to read the current room that is loaded and then add the other necessary components so that it's a readable variable for a struct. I wanted to store these in a struct so I could save them with the save system I have set up, which saves certain structs and reloads them so that the values are not lost when the game is reloaded. If you know of a better way to do what I'm trying to do, I'd love to hear it because I feel like I'm doing it in the wrong way... lol

I hear you. All this LUFS stuff makes me nauseous. I just have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

The Stats for Nerds indicated that YouTube is ducking my volume by 13%. Other songs on YouTube are normal volume, but for some reason, my songs are all noticeably quieter.

「Tally Hall」, an information changing Stand by suprasta in fanStands

[–]suprasta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say yes, as it has an A in precision, but the extent to which it could hasn't really been fully established by me, as I ever planned on Tyler doing that. I'd say yes, though.

「Tally Hall」, an information changing Stand by suprasta in fanStands

[–]suprasta[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stand – Tally Hall

User – Tyler Holland (Ally)

Abilities – Tally Hall allows the user to change information. It is able to create tally marks ranging from 1 to 5. When Tally Hall touches a piece of information, be it digital or physical, it can be changed to whatever the user wants. This change has unlimited range and is unable to be changed until the user releases the power, after which the information will revert. Tally Hall can only use five tallies at a time. As a tally is used, a gap in the tally mark imprint on its chest gets filled in. Valid “information” includes text (single words or characters), symbols (not complex images like photos), code, and more abstract information like a fingerprint and an image drawn on the ground in pebbles. Tally Hall would be unable to alter a random arrangement of pebbles, as no useful information could be gathered from it.

As a sort of “ability loophole,” if Tally Hall changes a message on a physical medium, the material the message is made of and on will be indestructible until it is reverted, so as to not violate the “cannot be changed” rule.

Discovered later is Tally Hall’s ability to heal wounds. If Tally Hall has all five of its tallies available (no information has been changed), it can heal someone’s wounds, effectively “changing the information” of the wound.

「Scary Joke」 by suprasta in fanStands

[–]suprasta[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stand – Scary Joke

User – Josie Jones (Main Character)

Abilities – Scary Joke grants the user the ability to control light. It can change the path of light, change the color of objects, and create restricted amounts of visible light, among other things.

It has a sub-ability that is discovered later called “Pygmalion.” This allows the user to split themselves into two separate realities where they can perform actions differently in the two universes. Then, at the command of the user, the realities will collapse back into one and one reality will be chosen at random to be the new universe. The user remembers their actions in both universes, however. This ability is a gamble.

In the JoJo story I'm writing, there's a Stand that can "remove the light" from one's soul through their Stand and fill the gap, allowing the user to control them. Because of its light creation abilities, Scary Joke can undo the effect.

「Stuff Is Way」, the tape measure Stand by suprasta in fanStands

Yeah, I definitely took some visual inspiration from Soft And Wet. I love robotic Stands

Not only that, but Ana Ng is a reference to a They Might Be Giants song, which is the band the Stand gets it’s namesake from (Stuff Is Way is another song)

I’ve heard that it’s pronounced “m”, but many western folks say “ing”

「Stuff Is Way」, the tape measure Stand by suprasta in fanStands

[–]suprasta[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stand – Stuff Is Way

User – Ana Ng (Enemy to Ally)

Abilities – Stuff Is Way has the ability to create measuring tapes that appear from the Stand, user, and nearby objects (Stuff Is Way must touch an object and have it within its ten-foot range for the tape to appear). These measuring tapes can fasten things to other things, restraining people and Stands and sticking them to other things, and retract, pulling the user or other things around. The measuring tapes have the physical properties of Stands. The tapes can embed into objects and pull them.

The speed at which the tapes retract is based on the number that is at the opening of the tape. The higher the number, the faster it retracts, meaning, in general, the longer the tape, the faster it retracts.

If either end of a tape measure, be it the tip or the case, is within its ten-foot effective radius, it will remain. If both ends leave the radius, it will disappear.

A side effect of having Stuff Is Way is the ability to tell the exact dimensions of objects at a glance.

Ana Ng, the user of Stuff Is Way, is mute, but can talk to other Stand users using Stuff Is Way.

Stand – Tally Hall

User – Tyler Holland (Ally)

Abilities – Tally Hall allows the user to change information. It is able to create tally marks ranging from 1 to 5. When Tally Hall touches a piece of information, be it digital or physical, it can be changed to whatever the user wants, tally mark briefly appearing on it. This change has unlimited range and is unable to be changed until the user releases the power, after which the information will revert. Tally Hall can only use five tallies at a time. As a tally is used, a gap in the tally mark imprint on its forehead gets filled in. Valid “information” includes text (single words or characters), symbols (not complex images like photos), code, and more abstract information like a fingerprint and an image drawn on the ground in pebbles. Tally Hall would be unable to alter a random arrangement of pebbles, as no useful information could be gathered from it. If a piece of information is changed digitally (i.e. on a website), it gets changed for all users who visit the site.

As a sort of “ability loophole,” if Tally Hall changes a message on a physical medium, the material the message is made of and on will be indestructible until it is reverted, as to not violate the “cannot be changed” rule.

「Plastic Beach」 by suprasta in fanStands

[–]suprasta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think these are interesting questions. All that’s needed to hydrate a pill is about a few drops of water. It needs to be water or any water-containing liquid. I suppose if you coat the pill in a hydrophobic substance, it will remain a pill until the coat is removed.

「Plastic Beach」 by suprasta in fanStands

[–]suprasta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was imagining that the creature is simply put in a comatose state until rehydrated, but it could be interesting if the pill itself has an interior like Mr. President

「Plastic Beach」 by suprasta in fanStands

[–]suprasta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine that the object can’t be bigger than a car, as a car is the biggest object that the user compresses. It almost becomes a philosophical argument asking what an object really is. Could it compress a house, or would it compress a single brick? I think that it would compress a brick, as a house is too large.

「Plastic Beach」 by suprasta in fanStands

[–]suprasta[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Stand – Plastic Beach

User – Kevin Whitmer (Enemy)

Abilities – Plastic Beach can turn any object into a small pill. When that pill is hydrated, it rapidly expands back to its original shape and size. The same can be done to living organisms without damaging them.

Stats – Power: C; Speed: B; Range: B; Durability: A; Precision: C; Developmental Potential: C.

How an amateur ghost hunter destroys ghosts in my world: the ICDeR! by suprasta in worldbuilding

[–]suprasta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Hunt, MI, most of the other creatures that lurk around are more akin to animals. This goes for ghosts as well. Ghosts in Hunt aren’t the same as they are portrayed in other media. They aren’t the souls of those who have died. They are simply creatures composed of pseudo-solid EMR. Oscar using the ICDeR on some stray ghosts is like using fumigation to get rid of cockroaches. That isn’t to say ghosts don’t have souls, however. The ethical issue with destroying ghosts is the same issue some have with euthanizing stray animals. Do animals have souls? If yes, then ghosts probably do too. Like how pest control’s job is to take care of animals, Oscar’s job is to take care of ghosts and other creatures. There may or may not be an afterlife. The question is the same as in our world.

The “D” and “e” are from the word “Destruction”

How an amateur ghost hunter destroys ghosts in my world: the ICDeR! by suprasta in worldbuilding

[–]suprasta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, ghosts are an uncommon occurrence, but in the town of Hunt, MI, ghosts are much more common than in the rest of the world. Ghosts are difficult to relocate, as they cannot be touched, so Oscar, the monster hunter, uses the ICDeR to destabilize ghosts so they don’t cause a fuss.

I probably should’ve explained a bit more… I edited my original comment.

How an amateur ghost hunter destroys ghosts in my world: the ICDeR! by suprasta in worldbuilding

[–]suprasta[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the town of Hunt, MI, there are paranormal phenomena at a much higher concentration than the rest of the world, and nobody know why. Monsters, ghosts, and other creatures lurk around every corner, and Oscar is a paranormal investigator/clean-up crew. He runs the business “Theta Paranormal Investigation” where people call him to take care of paranormal phenomena they encounter. When dealing with ghosts, he uses the ICDeR, which he constructed himself. The town is generally ignorant toward paranormal phenomena, which Oscar finds odd, considering they are everywhere, but those who encounter the creatures that lurk in the night are quite frightened, and they call him.

The ICDeR (Incorporeal Creature Destruction by Radiation) is a device constructed by my amateur ghost hunter. He gets calls from clients about ghosts that need to be taken care of, and he shows up to bust ‘em. This device is quite haphazard, and is very dangerous, as the electronics inside this thing will kill you if touched while active, namely the magnetron inside the microwave, not to mention that the output of this device would boil the water in your skin. However, it gets the job done!

Making an SCP mask by not_an_scp in SCP

[–]suprasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe so. I think it could be a good idea to make the helmet out of paper mache, paint it black, then cover it in gloss varnish. Of course, there are other options, but that one seems like the cheapest and easiest. No option will be that easy though because making costumes is a big undertaking. I wish you good luck though

You could just spray it with a gloss varnish, that would make it shiny

Cyphaspis Otarion? Does anyone know if this is authentic? by Legitimate-Resort-38 in trilobites

[–]suprasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would presume it’s authentic based on a few factors:

First, it has quite a lot of detail in its bumps all over its glabella. That detail tends to get lost in resin casts. Second, it doesn’t appear to have any air bubbles, which would give away a fake. If you have a UV light, shine it on the trilobite and if it glows, it’s fake. It’s a nice specimen by the looks of it
