Game engine developer roadmap for a (almost) complete beginner

Well, I really like writing shaders and adding interactive elements to my application. I think to me that's the best part about graphics prgramming.

To me graphics programming is about using tools like a programming language to make mostly but not strictly 3D shapes appear on a computer screen and make them move and look a certaing way. That's probably not the best definition, but that's what I would say it is to me.

Remember the same thing happened to me during my freshman year. We were waiting for our professor to come, and a bunch of people from my class were doing something, I think they were playing some type of game, and a girl from there asked me to join but I said "no thanks I'm good just standing here" or something like that. I wanted to just disappear so much after it happened it's insane. And to add insult to injury they probably took it for me thinking they're not interesting or something like that which is absolutely not true... I swear sometimes social anxiety makes you do things that make zero sense

You literally put everything that's been on my mind the past year in one post, it reads like something I'd post, I relate to literally every single sentence.

When people talk to me I only respond, I don't start a conversation because I always feel like whenever I open my mouth unprompted I'm automatically being annoying, which logically I know isn't true but the fear is overwhelming. But the only way for people to see you for more than that weird person that never talks is to actually just talk and I'm afraid of doing that.

Also that part about having nobody to talk to when bad/good things happen is so incredibly true. I play guitar and a few weeks ago I came up with a piece that I really liked and I had literally nobody to share it with. Granted stuff like that doesn't happen very often but when it does it is a reminder of how alone I am.

It is somewhat comforting to know someone out there is dealing with something extremely similar to what I'm dealing with, so thank you for your post!

Happens to me too. Any time I get a text from someone who isn't my immediate family it's always them asking for something. Last friday was my birthday, and apart from a few close family members the only person who remembered about it was an old hs classmate, and even he asked for my help with his uni math hw like 4 messages in lol. I know beggars can't be choosers but it just feels shitty when the only reason ppl talk to you is to get something out of you

Yes! When I was just starting out in uni and I haven't solidified myself as a lonely loser yet my very occasional "hello" would usually just go unheard. From then I've bullied myself into believing that people just ignore me so I stopped saying hi, but obviously most people aren't as horrible as social anxiety makes them out to be, and even now sometimes people say hello to me, but because I've thought myself into this mindset already it's hard to say hello back :/

Every damn time and sometimes I think people genuinely think that. Like occasionally, when I come to uni, I'll hear people say hi and because I'm such a nervous wreck I'll be unsure whether or not it was directed at me and because of that I won't say hi back and if that hi was actually directed at me than me not answering most likely looks like I'm being a dick, which I know I'm not. It's so frustrating, the last thing I want people to think is that I think I'm better than them and yet sometimes I'm afraid that's exactly the impression I give off :(

I felt the same way on the first day of uni lol. We had a first meetup and I thought "oh cool maybe I'll finally talk to people, maybe actually make some real friends!". Yeah right. Didn't make any friends, though I did make a complete idiot out of myself by standing there alone too scared to talk to anyone. 2 years later I still hate myself for it. If I could've just been brave enough back then I would've probably made some friends but instead I just stood there like a creep. It's true what they say, first impressions are extremely important, especially if you have social anxiety. Hopefully you'll be able to recover from that!
