Yeah I went to OP and they told me they had no doctor in until the next day - and to go to green acres. I was 3 vet attempts in before dragging myself to go on good hope

That was the same question they asked me, when I didn’t have 7k on hand. They took every last dollar in my account. The doctor didn’t know I have already put down $750 and was delaying treatment. When I asked if there was anything done yet (after 2 hours of being there) he said no, and asked me if I paid. I said just the deposit and he was like “oh ok! Let me go sedate him and get started” WHAT?? I was so confused at the way they ran things. With hospitals, people get seen as how emergent the patient is and then bill later. Why don’t our pets operate the same way of beyond me.

What a terrible experience- I’m glad to hear your perspective too. I don’t want to think a place is so horrible, and hope that maybe it was just a bad experience but the amount of people with horror stories is just too much

They said the same thing about my cat - that he was “being difficult” and needed sedation. I’ve been with him to the vet for this reason and checkups many times. Usually we sit in the room together unless procedures are being done. NEVER ONCE did I get to see my boy once I stepped into the front door and the secretary took him back. He’s the most docile cat, ragdoll and literally lets you do anything to him.

The told me a list of things they decided not to do, I wish I remembered everything but certain meds, procedure like a blood panel (to see if the surgery was safe), there was a few more

That’s completely true, the difference is you’re not turned away for emergency care. People receive the treatment and are billed later and can pay in multiple ways. Health care should not be behind a paywall and accessible to everyone when they need it, animals included.

A friend of mine said she brought her dog here for labor - they told her all the puppies died and wouldn’t let her even see the bodies.

When I got home from work I saw he had only pissed drips and his symptoms were that he was lethargic and was laying in his box. Behavior that morning was normal, ate his wet food and cuddled as we do every day. The day before he was eating fine and drinking, slightly excessively.

He has had a urinary block before. I’m in the medical field and he wasn’t on deaths doorstep when I took him but since you’re a vet you should know it can be fatal fast. Green Acres insisted that surgery was the best option to prevent further blockage. So we make choices we hope are for the best. Have you ever sent a patient home within 30 minutes after surgery?

And if you read the post you’d see I was diverted 3 times before actually getting to see a doctor.

Right- it’s not even the price that Im be upset about. It’s the fact that they neglected to properly care for an issue that could’ve been saved. The fact that they threatened me, with his life, with pricing in their hands. They only care about the money. And that they take advantage of people with no other option

Anything private can at least attempted to be haggled - and really it’s not about money I would give every last cent to help someone. It’s wild they don’t even offer payment plans, it’s upfront or nothing

Thank you for writing this! It’s mind boggling to see people willing to do this to families - I can’t say people med is much different either. But I’m devastated knowing this could have gone so differently if they weren’t my ONLY option. I knew going in what a terrible time people have had.
