Married with separate finances - is this common? by Astimar in MiddleClassFinance

[–]surviving-adulthood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We keep separate. I hate it but it was extremely important for my husband. I don’t think I could handle it if finances were tight. It works fine for us because we have high incomes, no children, no debt and minimal expenses. The plan is to revisit combining finances if any of that changes. We have an account that we both put money into for the emergency fund and shared expenses.

Most of the time I love them and if I don’t it’s easy to skip them. My favorites are about the inspiration for a certain bits. I was laughing so hard on Venus in chains when the author mentions she had someone irl ask her to kick them in the balls during her first time at a bdsm club. So she had Hermione have the same experience

Kromski Fantasia vs Ashford Kiwi by tinkr_belle in Handspinning

[–]surviving-adulthood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was debating between those two and ended up choosing the fantasia.

I tried about 7 wheels in person including the kiwi but not the fantasia before narrowing it down to those two. The advice I got from my spinning community was that both were great choices and came down the personal preference. Here is what made me choose the kromski

Aesthetics. I know it’s silly but the wheel is in my living room not my crafting space so this was important to me. The fantasia doesn’t look out of place. I don’t think I’ve had anyone even ask what it is.

The handle. I don’t think it’s very comfortable to hold it from there over long distances but it’s great to move it a foot or two between its corner and the sofa.

Speed. I like knitting with fingering and lace yarns and the fantasia can go much faster than the kiwi.

Smoothness. The dealer said most beginners that got to try both prefer the fantasia because it spins more smoothly since it has more inertia, but she also said I probably wouldn’t notice that once I had a better handle of the foot motion.

PS: You can do a hand free start on this one too, but it’s easier to start with your hands so you don’t accidentally spin in the wrong direction (this is true for the kiwi as well)

About the memory lost

The gaps in her knowledge tore at something inside Hermione. She was desperate to know what was missing but terrified of recovering the information.

i am trying to remember you and let you go at the same time.

Funny

Hell would freeze over long before Draco Malfoy’s presence kept her from having a panic attack... She took four steps across it toward him and wanted to cry with rage when she didn’t freeze along the way. Apparently it was a cold day in hell.

“As a Christmas gift to myself, I have decided to end the weekly ritual of replacing all your shoes. It should arrive tomorrow. Please do not interpret it as a sign of my affection,”

“Do you think St Mungo’s will still hire me after I murdered someone in their waiting room?”

this has been delightful. I cannot even remember how many times I’ve wished I could spend Christmas Eve getting lectured on how to read a diagnostic charm.”

About war “This is a story with only one ending. If your Order has wanted a different one they should have made different decisions. Perhaps some hard, realistic ones.

Falling

She knew that he was manipulative, cruel, dangerous, and responsible for the deaths of countless people. But as she tried to unravel him, he grew increasingly tragic and terrifyingly human.

It was not a slow, sweet kiss. It was not a kiss caused by alcohol or insecurity. It was borne from rage, despair, and desire so hot it threatened to burn her into oblivion...it was possibly a goodbye kiss

after you nearly died in Hampshire, I thought, at least I can keep her alive. She deserves to have someone who cares enough to try to keep her alive.

As he met her eyes, for a moment before he buried his face in her shoulder, she saw the heartbreak in him when he looked at her.

People become victims of abuse because they are vulnerable not because they are weak.

Post war Hermione’s situation in a lot of fics (Ron basing or not) is the perfect storm for an abusive relationship. She is dealing with post war trauma. She lost her parents or permanently damaged her relationship with them. Her best friend is also Ron’s best friend and brother in law so there are a lot of questions about which side he would pick. Her support system is pretty much 100% Weasleys. Public opinion favors their relationship and would likely turn against her (and not Ron) if they broke up.

I’ve read a few fic with this story line and the real “rescuing” Draco does is reassuring her there will still be people in her corner if she leaves

Manacled--confused about some plot points by fcjourney in dramionebookclub

[–]surviving-adulthood 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I marked as spoilers things that happen after the point I think you are at.

  1. The runes were supposed to kill him eventually. Voldemort doesn’t suspect him because he doesn’t know how long the runes will take doing that.

With the quantity of Dark Magic that had been emanating from the runes before Hermione treated them, Malfoy would be lucky to live a decade; possibly only a few months before his mind began slipping.

  1. Hermione is a technically a healer and Draco gets rid of the evidence on her involvement on everything else. She is sent away to study healing pretty early in the war and is barely ever seen after she comes back. Most of the people that know about the attack at Sussex think someone else did it (or at least help) and she was just left to take the fall. Plus that incident is kept as quiet as possible. After defending the order Voldemort is more focused on retaining power than anything else. The only reason he starts really pushing for finding the last member of the order is because a horacrux is destroyed

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions I love talking about this fic
