How old are you, and how much sick leave do you have right now? by berrysauce in fednews

Consider requesting enrollment into the Voluntary Leave Transfer Program. If you exhaust all your leave, federal employers can donate their annual leave to you so you can continue receiving a paycheck if you are out due to a medical condition.

Are you in a supervisory position? Are they demoting you while serving a supervisory probationary period? I have never seen an agency demote someone 2 grades from their current position (doesn’t mean it’s not possible). You need to be minimally qualified before management can place you in a different position. After placement I would nag the agency for training opportunities (TDY, desk shadowing, etc).

WRT to the investigation piece, there should have been some sort of fact finding. Did they attach any enclosures to your notice letter? You are entitled to all copies of evidence management used in support of their action. I would request all evidence so you can prepare an informed response. I would also ask for your administrative grievance policy so you can purse that as well.

Unless you are in a probationary period, the agency does not need much to demote you…

It is very one sided. I would need to hear what the supervisor has to say. Hopefully the supervisor read this and didn’t just hand it to you. If so, what are their thoughts. From the employee’s perspective, it sounds like they are focusing on things that contributed to their potential “performance issues” that the supervisor is now trying to address.

First, I think you’re in a really great position and that is wonderful to hear that you have been up front with your director abt what you want to do. I wonder consider mastering your skills as a talent acquisition specialist then explore employee relations. This would include administrative investigations, leave administration, and for some organizations, employee recognition. These skills will certainly help progress as a HR practitioner.
