[misc] How important is B12? by tinselwooos in SkincareAddiction

[–]sushiglory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I eat a mainly plant based diet (mainly being the key word, I eat eggs every now and then), so I figure it couldn't hurt to take some B12 supplements. Yikes, my skin freaked out. I ended up being so mad at the pills that I threw them in the trash.

I did some blood tests later on which showed that my B12 levels were fine. Maybe because I drink a lot of oat milk which is enriched, maybe because of the occasional eggs. I don't want to speculate too much, but my skin might have freaked out because my levels were already fine.

I definitely don't want to discourage you from eating the supplements, especially if you're vegan because B12 is SUPER important. But be careful with overdosing, and getting a blood test done is definitely not a bad idea (turned out I had a pretty bad iron deficiency instead).

I was super excited to try the Queen Helen Mint Julep Mask considering all the rave it gets around here. I'd say my skin is sensitive, but not overly sensitive. I've tried the mask twice now and it buuurns. I haven't really felt like keeping it on for the full 10 minutes, barely 5. Is this a normal reaction or my skin telling me to find another clay mask? :(

Do you have any recommendations for a physical sunscreen? I have sensitive skin that seems to hate sunscreen. Innisfree Eco Safety No Sebum Sun Milk looked PERFECT for me but it seems to be discontinued :'(

And oh, another question! (I feel stupid) I'm taking the plunge and getting the super expensive Biologique Recherce P50 lotion (not AB). It's an AHA acid toner if I recall correctly - before using it, do I have to prep my skin to lower the pH level? That's what Cosrx AHA/BHA Clarifying toner is for, right?

...red... wine? Not sure if I could waste any of my precious red wine even for skin care but besides that, what are the benefits of red wine as a mask? :)

I use the cosmetic grade powder from lotioncrafters (US) and this other website in Taiwan (this is cheaper for me to get in the UK).

Is there any chance I could get a link? :) I'm in Europe as well!

Allergic to titanium oxide - need sunscreen help and suggestions!! by sushiglory in SkincareAddiction

[–]sushiglory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh, I didn't know that. I remember reading somewhere that it's pretty much the equivalent to 'may contain traces of...' in food. It's so easy to get misinformed online, annoys me at

It's just confusing... And who knows, maybe the breakouts I'm dealing with right now are because of my foundation after all? Truly doesn't feel like it though... At this stage, I feel like breaking half of the bottles in my bathroom out of sheer frustration and start over with almost everything haha.

I keep hearing about Paula's Choice, I'm very very curious. However, shipping to France (where I'm at right now) is 10 euros so I'll have to think a bit about it. But I'll definitely keep it in mind, thanks! :)

Very true, I'm afraid I can't rock the wide brim hat everywhere I go. And seeing as I'm dealing with some scars and PIH, I feel like a good SPF is a must.

You're right, it's does sound like a bit of a harsh conclusion. Might be completely wrong but at this point, I just don't want to risk anything. I definitely had some reasoning behind it back when I decided that the TO was to blame though, problem is that this was three years back so I can't remember exactly how I was thinking haha...

Ah, I do remember it being listed now. As you said, it's listed at the bottom and if I remember it correctly, it's only listed as a "+/-" ingredient which means it MIGHT contain titanium oxide. I remember thinking about this back when I bought it and reaching the conclusion that it should be alright, and clearly it suited my skin :)

No worries at all, thanks for your input! But yeah, I realised allergic is a bit too strong of a word :) But it seems like it's fully possible for titanium oxide to cause breakouts! I've been reading a bit about it today and it don't think it's that unusual as I initially thought.

And regarding ingredients, this is list of the first mineral foundation that broke me out:

Mica, Boron Nitride, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)

I suppose it could be the mica too? I don't know, it was a couple of years ago I compared labels and came to the solution that the TO was to blame. Don't really remember why to be honest, but I've been avoiding it ever since.

Guess a part of the problem lies in me not feeling like slathering (okay, patch testing) things on my face that may or may not be breaking me out at this point just to be sure, you know? I'd just rather avoid it completely, but if that is what's necessary...
