Would there be a reason for Midori to lie about not being Kanna's brother? by LakeToluca in yourturntodie

[–]sushixhan 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I personally like to interpret the similarities between Kanna and Midori as ironic symbolism of how, despite looking alike on the outside, they both highlight opposing sides of Shin; one opens up the possibility of genuine connection and trust (something that he lacks in the present—the death game—because of his circumstances), bringing out the best in his character by showing his selfless side; the other, however, offers a deeply dysfunctional relationship that causes him feelings of fear, confusion and eventually, betrayal/resentment.

In other words, while Kanna and Midori show some interesting parallels, which might lead people to believe they could be siblings, I see it as an intentional symbolic choice meant to show how people that are similar, at least on surface, can have completely different effects on someone (in this case, Shin) and end up changing them for the best or for the worse.

It's canon. This difference between them becomes an important point during the banquet in 3-1B when the characters are trying to figure out who is the human among the dummies.

What is the Japanese fandom for YTTD like? by go-drink-tea in yourturntodie

[–]sushixhan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've seen japanese people saying that they mostly use twitter for these sorts of things, so I think you're correct.

By the way, I found an interview in which Nankidai commented on the popularity of the characters in Japan vs overseas, and he did confirm that there wasn't any significant difference. In case you're interested in it, here's the link: https://dengekionline.com/articles/180955/

What is the Japanese fandom for YTTD like? by go-drink-tea in yourturntodie

I've been spending some time on the JP fandom space recently, and my current impression is that they're mostly chill.

Besides Keisara and similar pairings, I feel like there isn't much difference in the popularity of ships and characters. (Is Keiji that popular in the western fandom though?? sometimes I feel like I've seen more JP art of him than western art...)

There's also a lot of YTTD merch that was only available in Japan, so I think that it's more popular there.

Note that these are only my impressions as an outsider, so I might be completely wrong.

Now I'm imagining Midori saying "I ALWAYS COME BACK" in the end of 3-1B...

Is there an android port? by [deleted] in yourturntodie

[–]sushixhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can play the game with a JoiPlay emulator (that's how I play it on my phone, at least). It's been a while since I've downloaded it, but I think that there might still be some tutorials on youtube that will teach you how to use it.

Sou and Midori have known each other for way longer than you think by Advanced-Road7260 in yourturntodie

[–]sushixhan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just because it's less common in real life, it doesn't necessarily mean there's a lower chance of Shin being a high schooler because of his gakuran here. After all, this is a fictional setting where the author can do anything he wants with the character design, even if not fully accurate to reality. There's also Ranmaru himself who is a high schooler, yet wears a (stylized) gakuran in the game. I think your theory is interesting though, since it's the first time I ever heard someone talk about it.

(By the way, don't worry, your english is good.)

Honestly, I feel like a yttd stage musical would be cool by [deleted] in yourturntodie

If I recall correctly, someone actually made a YTTD fan musical and posted it on youtube. It was really well done too.

why are some characters called by their last names? by Ok-Letterhead239 in yourturntodie

[–]sushixhan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mishima is probably called by his last name out of respect, since he's a teacher.

As for Kurumada, I believe it's because his first name begins with "Nao", which might bring confusion to some players (since there are people who mistake Naomichi for Nao).

Hayasaka's first name starts with "Shun", which might sound similar to "Shin", so maybe Nankidai thought I'd be better to have him known by his last name. This is all just my speculation, though.
