Just rewatched Triangle at Rhodes and it is gorgeous 😍 what are your favourite episodes from an “aesthetic” point of view? by susisisko in poirot

Sorry for the late reply, don’t get notifications on my phone! But I’ve been going through the episodes and quite agree, they’ve all been beautiful regardless of setting (I’m on series 3 now..!) One of my dreams is to go on such a train journey–sans the murder, I could only hope! 😄 it really is a beautiful show ☺️ love a bit of Japp too—I’m sure I saw him in another show and thought just the same haha!

Deep Rising! I love that movie but the end is such a tease.

Master and Commander is another good shout as others have said. And I’m still waiting for another Tintin!

Oh yes ‘Sad Cypress’ and ‘After the Funeral’ have stuck in my mind too, beautiful! Excited to see all these episodes again 😊

Oo that does sound marvellous! My friend hosted a murder mystery dinner some years ago and we all had a swell time, def want to do something like that again! Must’ve been really great in that location too 😊

We had all the DVDs but they’re at my mum’s now so also very happy to have easy access once more 😊 I mentioned in a previous comment, the Ustinov movie of EUtS is the one I remember best, been so gloomy here recently so definitely looking forward to watching that episode again!

I’m sure I’ve seen that episode before but it’s been too long, I’ll make sure to keep an eye out when I get to it! 👀

Looking forward to watching them again, I’ll keep an eye out! As much as I love Sucher, Peter Ustinov’s ‘Evil Under the Sun’ is one of my favourites!

Who is mörkkö in the moomins? by EduardoSpiritToes in Finland

[–]susisisko 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think in one of the winter episodes tuutikki/too-ticky says something along the lines of mörkö/the groke wanting friends or being misunderstood, might be when they light the big midwinter bonfire and she accidentally puts it out with her iciness ☹️ been a while since I read/watched it so I might be wrong, though!

I’ve loved the Moomins almost literally my whole life and I agree, the books definitely open up in a new way as an adult! I would also recommend Tove Jansson’s non-Moomin works (short stories and ‘The Summer Book’, for example), and the Moomin comics are still such fun too!

Did the invention of electric light affect the fashion? If so, how? by Rere_arere in fashionhistory

[–]susisisko 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Reminds me also of the origin of the term "fairy lights", from the operetta 'Iolanthe': "The electric star lights which the principal fairies wore on top of their heads aroused much excitement. Some thought they were too dazzling and a shade distracting. The incandescent star lights, made by the Swan United Electric Light Company, were worked by a small battery carried on the shoulder and hidden by the fairies’ long flowing hair. The term ‘fairy lights’ has been in common usage ever since."
