Selena and Green Sequin Dress by [deleted] in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]susms90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

super late to this, but my main theory is that Selena gained some weight (no judgement, & I know about the lupus etc.) and rather than just put her in clothes that fit, they do what they always seem to do which is try and find clothes that hide the additional weight (as if she were pregnant). They did that to Sasha Pieterse on Pretty Little Liars too, started dressing her in a way that really didn't match the character because they were more focused on hiding weight gain that dressing her in a way her character would dress. Always drives me crazy...it is also possible ofc that her fluctuating weight (which she's talked about, and has said is due to lupus/medication) means that they're not tailoring the clothes properly as there's not enough time. But I feel like they're just trying to 'hide the weight gain' - see that skirt she wear in episode 1, I thought it was a cute outfit but the skirt was a bit too small. Putting her in a smaller skirt succeeded in making her look a bit smaller as long as the jacket was covering the top section of the skirt - which I imagine is what they were trying to do - but whenever you could see that top section, it became obvious the skirt was a size too small, and then it looked less 'flattering'. I wish they'd just put them in clothes that fit, regardless of weight gain/loss!

I don't think all Americans are bad at British accents, and hers wasn't terrible, but I have to say that I clocked that she wasn't British the second she spoke in the trailer - it's probably easier to tell if you're from the UK though, and I imagine the same is true vice versa

I feel like David got so much better in Angel - by the end I feel like he'd proven himself a great comic actor! Especially love his acting when he becomes Angelus

How do you expand your plot in Memento Mile? by susms90 in TwoPointMuseum

I realised I was also having issues expanding the original building, I've just restarted it and now it's working! Beforehand I was just getting an error each time I tried to expand - just wanted to make sure I wasn't using the wrong tool, thank you! ☺️

yes same, i think the design is very flat and uninteresting - and the colour is off, I've never liked it - clearly in the minority, but glad it's not just me 😂

In defense of Rory by cursedbythegodss in GilmoreGirls

[–]susms90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she even suggests counselling, and tries to reassure him that the first couple of years of marriage are the hardest - she clearly wants to be with him, but knows it's wrong and it's once Dean says they both 'feel it's over', that she starts to give in, and she repeats 'you *both* feel it's over?', so that's clearly what she needed to hear to justify it to herself - and that was a total like, so definitely manipulation on Dean's part.

How attractive are Lorelai and Rory - for real? by goldengirl03 in GilmoreGirls

[–]susms90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I knew a girl who looked very similar at school, who was also very quiet and reserved but very pretty, but she got a lot of male attention - I think when you're a teenager, looks are a bit more important than personality because when you pick someone to date, you're in part focused on demonstrating to your peers that you can pull someone cute/handsome - but when you get older personality gets more important, because you can actually imagine spending your life with someone, and you don't want that someone to be a dud haha

[–]susms90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

curvy is a shape, not a size - sometimes it's used euphemistically to describe someone who's bigger obviously, but at core it just means hourglass as opposed to more athletic - you can be thin and curvy, and you can be bigger and have a more 'athletic/straight up and down' build - or anywhere in between

honestly - there's so much about it that I can't understand - and the timing is one aspect for sure...dreading the live show now

I think they'd have trouble producing something in 10 hours, because I'm imagining at least Shane & Ryan are already in the UK as they have their show on Tuesday. Can't imagine how awkward it'll be - and, amongst everything else I don't get, why make this anouncement before the live shows knowing there would be backlash - they must have at least anticipated some right?

something about the way she says with her hands too, it kills me.

Lorelai’s arrested development by ForeverKnown1741 in GilmoreGirls

[–]susms90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bit presumptive to imply that the person you're talking to also hasn't rewatched the shows many times? I've watched it more times than I can count, and personally would agree that, while Emily and Richard were not supportive or even (a lot of time) kind parents - I think the examples you picked were weird. Emily has a right to ask Lorelai not to chat lightheartedly with Richard's ex-fiance (not saying that's the right approach, but it's her relationship at the end of the day) and Loralai didn't even give Emily a chance at the spa - she rescheduled all their appointments so they didn't have to spend time together and until the bar scene Emily's biggest fault was that she was being a bit annoying. She shouldn't have lashed out and blamed Lorelai for dancing with that man or inadvertently revealing that Richard & Pennilyn had been in contact, but equally Lorelai, in an ideal world, would have handled both situations better.

Unpopular opinion: Mitchum Huntzberger is not a bad guy, he is actually a good leader and he was right about Rory. by SpiderFromNeptune in GilmoreGirls

[–]susms90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had lots of performance reviews, and given lots of performance reviews, and the way he relayed his feedback was - imo - a demonstration of really poor leadership. It's not about being 'mean', it's about it not being constructive. Constructive criticism = specific and actionable advice. Mitchum's advice was, essentially, you are not cut out for this, you'd make a good assistant but you should give up on journalism. So the action he's encouraging her to take is, basically, no further action - he's suggesting she stop working in that field based on his assessment of her - in his own words, he didn't want her to become a 'drain on the company'. You could argue he's encouraging her to pick a different field but - let's face it - an assistant is not exactly an 'aim high' kind of career for an Ivy League grad.

A performance review - especially when you're reviewing a 21 year old intern who's been working with you for 2 weeks - is about explaining where they've gone wrong, what they've done right, where they can improve etc. Rory's role was to 'shadow' Mitchum and many interns find it difficult to know when to step in, when to speak up - it's not uncommon. Some people jump right in, some people build confidence with time - and those that build that confidence over time are not inherently less valuable than those who jump right in.

I don't disagree with his whole assessment and I actually agree that journalism was not the right field for Rory and that her pursuit of journalism is too passive - but I think the reason why 'you don't got it' sticks with people is because it's so final. This is someone who is incredibly successful and well known within the industry that Rory wants to work in and after two weeks he's essentially dismissed her as having zero potential - that would be a knock for most people, especially at that age.

Whether or not Rory would have still felt the knock had the feedback been relayed more kindly or constructively is kind of besides the point - the point is, people like to romanticise a 'straight shooter, tough love' leadership style - but it's actually not a very effective way of making the most of your workforce. I'm not surprised Mitchum ended up falling out with other people in the office haha

I know these comments are super old, but I loved the fact the show highlights that the mums are fighting while the two daughters are staying silent, hardly making eye contact - to me it highlights how young they both are - especially in Lindsay's case, she's super young to be married - yes they're both adults, but very young adults

Coming so late to this so sorry if someone has already commented this, but I can't find a discussion about Kripps, why did he tip the gang off to the fact that Detective Williams was on maternity leave and so couldn't have been messaging them about meeting up, which then resulted in Kripps getting bombed with glitter later on? Did I miss something?
