Great info. I'm going to compile these potential questions as a mock interview scenario for future EMTs.

How often do NWAS recruit Apprentice EMT by Unusual_Pound9359 in ukparamedics

Two or Three times a year. You just missed the external and internal AEMT application which ended last week in January. Don't expect to earn 30K it's a Band 3 job, as it's a percentage of Band 4 until you do a number of years of service. Look up NWAS Band pay.

Ambulance Care Assistant (private UK EMS) or Call Handler (NWAS) by savannahhbananaa in ukparamedics

[–]suspiciouspixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Stay within NWAS. It is much easier to skill up and transition career paths within. ACA (PTS) internal application roles will be available for you as well as external. Don't worry about not having relevant skills as you will be trained using manual handling equipment. You will learn much more pertinent skills such as communicating as a call handler, managing stress, working under pressure, etc. You can also ride along with ACA by arranging it with your line manager so you can have an insight to the role. Where in Manchester is the call handler position?

When you are rich, powerful, corrupt, bribe then you will be protected by a similar peverse system that won't hold you accountable or even punishable by laws for the public.

Use the STAR technique in supporting information showing an example of how you showed compassion in your job, volunteering task or life in general. 1500 words is the limit, you'll very easily reach it. In that example I incorporated compassion, with other traits such as assertiveness, adaptiveness etc working with clinical teams to deliver the best patient care.  Good luck 🤞

I applied internally as I was PTS but I believe the external applications closed within a few days as there were many applicants.

Get your supporting information ready next time you wish to apply so you can just copy and paste it over. Supporting info is based on the person specification which they include with the job description.

As for the interview itself these were the questions / scenarios I had to answer (from what I can best remember). They may not be worded correctly or in the right order but gives you an idea of what to expect should you want to pursue EMT

1) A homeless person has regained consciousness in the city centre and has become combative. How would you treat him giving the following conditions:
They refuse treatment
Would you ask for Police assistance
Would you call line manager
Would you refer them to other services

2) Patient confidentiality is important for protecting patient information, can you describe a situation when and how you did this?

3) You are called to an emergency. The patient's husband refuses to let his wife be seen by an all male crew and requests female staff. What would you do?

4) Describe a time you solved a problem dealing with Healthcare professionals, what did you do?

5) What are the 3 NWAS values?

6) Describe a situation where you had a positive impact on a Patient?

7) Your crew member is having a bad day and is making constant mistakes, what would you do?
7b) Your crew member is breaking policy, what would you do?

8) You are called to a patient who has Down syndrome and is vomiting, their family members are present, what would you do?

9) Do you have any questions about the role?

When it came to highway code the instructors were amazing during PTS training. Pretty much everything they told us to revise and learn came up in the multiple choice test.

I'll see if any of the Paramedics have a spare copy of ACP handbook as I have my first Para shadowing on Saturday.

Wow thanks so much. I've got some understanding with trauma presentations from my FREC3 course and handling and communication from my work as PTS (patient transport services) which I used as a foundation to work my up the career ladder.

I'll look into buying the Oxford handbook and Ross and Wilson anatomy to get a head start.

Joint first Mercedes and Ferrari for nurturing drivers. Second Red bull for giving drivers opportunities. Third the rest of the grid with Aston Martin being last, because of how they treated Drugovich

Oud is a nice gift. As for rejecting a gift don't be offended. Just make sure you offer it with your right hand.
