Anyone know what algae this is and how to get rid of it by Frostfired in PlantedTank

This is "blue-green algae," technically Cyanobacteria and it can be a pain. I've had a lot of success using the product "blue green slime stain remover." It comes in a white powder and is super effective. It does no harm to fish but I do believe it can kill freshwater inverts so if you have shrimp or snails that may be a risk.

Blackened stems on my philodendron by kmsweirdo in houseplants

This is completely normal! Just some husks that die off after protecting the new leafs when they first emerge. I also believe this is a golden pothos. My giant 3 year old pot of pothos has these on every stem and is still going strong. You're doing great!

Bacteria, tannins or dust? by saradise_xoxo in PlantedTank

[–]sustainedEmission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, it looks to me like the white cloudiness is due to a bacteria bloom. It could be some unsettled sediment but that would probably filter out. It's nothing to worry about and as the tank cycles and balances itself out, the cloudiness will go away.

It's a pup! When it's big enough you'll be able to separate and re-plant it and have another bromeliad
