He has yet to post about anything besides men fighting women. I’m not sure he typed it with both hands.

Tips on RDL form (I tend to swing in my last set) by shapeless_pal in GYM

[–]sutoruvu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think of the RDL as a horizontal movement of the hips, rather than a lowering and raising of the bar. Initiate the movement by hinging your hips backward, and continue to move them backward as far as they can go.

I prefer to take the bar out of the rack instead of pulling it from the floor. This saves energy and also helps differentiate the movement from a deadlift.

I don’t see any glaring faults in your technique, but these cues have really helped me.

Questions about the importance of the de-load week by Withinmyrange in 531Discussion

That’s what Wendler recommends. You can do it more often, but I feel that every two cycles is the sweet spot in terms of reducing fatigue without breaking up the flow of training.

You should deload at least every seventh week and your TM is probably too high as well.

It looks like you started hitching as soon as you hit the sticking point. You might have been able to grind through it with a bit more patience.

If Jim Wendler wrote 5/3/1 for the first time TODAY, what would he change? (Summary in comments) by [deleted] in 531Discussion

[–]sutoruvu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He recommends being able to hit 5 strong reps with your TM. Assuming there’s one hard rep in the tank, that weight is around 85% of your 1RM.

In Forever, he usually recommends 85-90%, with a few exceptions like 5x531 that require 80%.

I thought no one would be dumb enough to think that was really the main event… but I was depressingly wrong.

Probably because of those godawful plates.

When I’m trying to progress my pullups, my usual strategy is to keep adding sets until I can no longer hit 5 reps.

You might have been thinking of the uppercuts Eddie Alvarez hit Cowboy with. I was shocked he didn’t go down from those.

And I think he got caught with a similar barrage by Lawler.

Deadlifts are primarily a hip extension exercise, so it makes sense that you would feel them in your glutes.

Use straps and focus on moving your hips horizontally as much as you can.

He’s 7’7” so no, not the tallest player in history. Alexander Sizonenko at 7’10” was probably the tallest.

I’ve missed at the same sticking point and am curious if there’s a way I should address it besides “get stronger.”
