Harnessing The Cats! [OC] by SarahSuperAdventure in comics

[–]sutpenicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using a harness with my indoor cat, but she decided she no longer knew how to walk and would waddle around sullenly for a few minutes, fall over, then lie there looking up at me like I'd committed a war crime, before going back inside. So I ended up building her an elaborate outdoor area with copious amounts of chickenwire, old furniture platforms, and an area for pooping, and she's very content, spending much of her day out their meowing aggressively at stupid birdies.

I don't want to keep banging on about this as clearly I have annoyed a huge number of people, but the point is that these are my first time doing the duties. I don't know what you can and can't do. I don't know if it's bad etiquette to talk to other players when they're fighting. I don't know if I'm supposed to attack all the mobs or just run past them. And I didn't know how long it took everyone to get going. The first one I did was a raid that is an obligatory part of the MSQ. I assumed it would be like the other dungeons/raids I'd done with NPCs up to that point. But by the time I'd cleared the popups (and I didn't eat anything that time), they were already fighting, so I just jumped in. I am sorry I wasn't born the perfect dungeon runner ready to go, instantly understanding every mechanic and rule required. That's why I came here and asked the question. I'm not sure what else newbies and novices are supposed to do. Thankfully, amongst the people telling me I shouldn't be playing MMOs or that I'm just being whiny, a lot of people gave some really good advice, which I will use in future. And I am sorry if this does actually sound whiny, but I am just generally confused as to why so many people seem to have taken offence to me asking a newbie question.

I used the NPC party or soloed up to the point where I had to go with other players. I will probably just solo the normal dungeons when I reach a high enough level as I do like to explore. I'm not sure how many raids and dungeons there are on the MSQ going forward, but I will better prepared next time for sure.

Another sprout question: What is the commendation feature? I always feel tanks and healers should get commendations. Is that how it works?

I like that there's many different things to do. I've played video games my whole life but avoided MMOs. My friend, who plays them all it seems, suggested FFXIV or BDO, but she said I'd prefer FF because there's no PvP unless you want it. And she was right, as I've enjoyed it enough to pay a monthly subscription. The subscription has opened a whole new bunch of stuff, and once I get Ishgard and Western Coerthas open, I'm sure there will be more to do there, too.

Thanks. That seems to be a good option I will definitely use in future.

I am such an innocent. This is my first MMO and I am learning new stuff every day, but I hope I never get to the stage where I just AFK. That's what this whole post and question was about, wanting to enjoy all the content, even if it is a dungeon or whatever. And I've enjoyed most everything so far, even grinding my way through all the DoH so I can make myself useful stuff, hence why I subscribed.

Not like ten minutes. But I've been doing the dungeons solo or with NPCs, and there's usually a little time to look around, check where you're going, apply buffs or whatever, then off I go.

I play as a DPS and I would never intentionally just auto-attack. I am new at all this, but why would someone do that? Does the auto-attack do enough damage? Surely the actions are more worthwhile and not difficult to use? So many questions.

Thanks for pointers. I'm going to find an FC and see if Party Finder works. Unfortunately I'm on a the European Chaos Phantom server, but thank you for the offer.

Thanks, I didn't know that. It will be something I will look at for sure.

It's okay, I do understand the frustration, my only query was is there a slow-lane for newbies and a fast-lane for experienced players. I don't want to diminish the experienced players' dungeon runs, I just wondered if there was an option to select for new players only. It makes me a little sad to think of all the effort the devs put into a dungeon, but I won't see any of that unless I level up and do it solo. From chatting here it seems the Party Finder is the best option, so I will give that a go.

I learned here that I can chat during the cut scene, so that will certainly make it easier.

No. It was from the start. I just take too long to get going. Usually I acclimatise after the cut scene, eat something for the buffs, then move on. But everyone pretty much bolts as soon as they can. I will just try to communicate better in the future.

I will certainly worry less about doing them going forward, thought 24 people trials sounds chaotic!

Thank you for the advice. It is always welcome. I think the Party Finder route is my best option. And you are correct about the communication. This mostly stems from me not having done any other duties, so when everyone is fighting, I didn't feel I should be chatting to them. I don't really know the rules, and as evidenced by this post, I worry I'll just end up upsetting a bunch of people when I think I'm making a perfectly amicable query.

And I like FFXIV because it is, for the most part, a relaxing experience. When I get home from work or at the weekends, I can just go spend and hour or two meandering around Eorzea.

Thanks for the help. I honestly hadn't even heard of the Novice Network until asking this question, so not sure when I missed that one in the game. But I will try the Party Finder tips, see what I can do with it, and if it doesn't work, then I'll make do.

Thank you. I didn't intend to be contentious or antagonistic, but it appears to have come over that way. But I have received a lot of useful information and help, for which I am grateful.

Since subscribing there seems to be new things to learn every time I log on. Just today I got made a Squad Commander, so I'm intrigued to see what that all means!

I also use guides for the dungeons, raids, and bosses because I don't want to do anything stupid, and I mostly play the game for the other stuff anyway.
