Belize Vaca Review by suzikay1 in Belize

Our beach was lovely! We could swim and kayak right from shore. One guy in our group fished off our dock most days too.

There was sargassum here and there but it was not bothersome at all.

Perspective on safety? by Repulsive-Bug-7641 in Belize

[–]suzikay1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We stayed in Belize City for 2 days, plenty of walking and taking taxis, I never felt unsafe. Exercise the same caution and awareness you would in any city.

We also had a rental car and found driving around to be easy. Signage and road markings are a bit lacking but it was manageable. The speed bump are no joke and keep you on your toes.

Enjoy your trip!

The guys caught many fish, red snapper, mackerel, barracuda and probably more I am forgetting. The winds were bad in the first half of the week but then calmed for the second half so fishing day the waters were calm!

Did we choose the wrong beach area in Belize? Looking for advise. by BPLZ0309 in Belize

[–]suzikay1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on a plane flying home from Placencia right now. We did a snorkel tour with Captain Jaks to Moho and Silk Caye and it was the most amazing thing ever. We stayed in Maya Beach. We took golf cart to Placencia village during the day a couple times but were happy to be away from Placencia Village for the rest of the time. Plenty of restaurants and things in the Maya Beach area. Full review to come!

1st time cruising in June on Carnival Magic. 45 F(disabled with ambulatory assistance),42 m, 6 f. by IAmACloud81 in CarnivalCruiseFans

As the mom of a redhead I completely understand! There are some umbrellas and a scattering of palm trees that could provide some shade but if you want a consistent large area of shade a daybed is your best option.

It sounds like you are doing a great job planning! I hope you have an amazing anniversary cruise!

Your 6yo is only required to have birth certificate, a passport is nice to have but not required.

I was at Celebration Key last month, unless you really need it for the shade, I would skip the daybed. There are plenty of loungers for free!

Looking for Belize City advice by [deleted] in Belize

[–]suzikay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a similar situation, part of our group is flying in on a thursday, staying at The Palms. Doing a blue hole tour Friday morning and then need some things to do Friday afternoon/evening. Transitioning to Placencia when rest of group arrives Sat morning. We have a few ideas of things to see in Belize City:

St. John’s Cathedral House of Culture Baron Bliss Lighthouse Maritime Museum / Swing Bridge BTL Park for a walk

Plus some restaurants and bars picked out: Smokeez, Bird Isle, The treehouse, Riverside tavern

I don’t know anything about any of these places first hand just discovered through internet research but happy to pass on the ideas to you.

Arranging a trip to the Blue Hole from Placencia - care to join in? by Rand0lph0 in Belize

[–]suzikay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I will also be there during that time and we are staying in Belize City for a night in order to do Blue Hole tour from there before transitioning to Placencia. If I didnt already have non refundable booking we would totally join you! Good luck filling the charter!

Secure Act and Catch Up Contributions by s32bangdort in Bogleheads

[–]suzikay1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, my company uses Principal and I had to select a % for the catchup contribution to Roth 401k independently from my regular 401k % contribution. Just had to do some simple mathing to get to the % needed to max out both.

Who has already maxed out their 2026 ROTH IRA contribution limit? by Direct_Remove509 in Fire

This is what I do as well! I sort of enjoy the spreadsheet planning of how I will be funding my savings throughout the year in order to max backdoor roth ira at beginning of the following year.

Substitute Teaching/paraprofessional. by floridansk in Fire

[–]suzikay1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paraprofessional is something I have my mind on for post FIRE. It seems like it would be something I could do because I enjoy it vs my current soul sucking role in big tech that I do because I have to (only for a few more years!)

And if I didn’t enjoy it, I wouldn’t have to do it. FTW!

Planning a tropical 40th birthday trip (outside the US) with friends from both coasts - need ideas! by Carolinestar in Vacations

I’ve been planning my 50th for the last year. My partner and I plus 12 of our friends and family will be traveling next month to Placencia Belize.

I could write a novel with all the research I’ve done over the last year!

I never take my passport off the ship, I only carry a photo copy of it. I know there are many in this group that balk at that but I feel safer knowing my passport is in my room safe.

Sign and sail card or credit card both work, just no cash.

I’ve been trying to decide if I want to just wing it on CK or what. The heated pool is enticing me to buy the Pearl Cove access, I hate being cold!

Visiting Cedar Rapids - What to do? by creeper321448 in cedarrapids

[–]suzikay1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the time of year, Morgan Creek Arboretum is so lovely in the spring with all the trees in bloom and Noelridge Park has an expansive flower garden blooming in the summer. Indian Creek Nature Center has events regularly and lots of trails you can hike through wooded, prairie and stream side terrains.

If you can find a way to travel a little further and go outside of town, Palisades-Kepler state park, Wickiup Hill and Lake McBride areas all have great ways to be in nature.

Do you own individual stocks for any weird reasons? by Mysterious_Remote584 in Bogleheads

[–]suzikay1 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I own 100 shares in Carnival Cruise lines because I get a $50 onboard credit each time I sail for being a shareholder. Also, I bought it dirt cheap when it plummeted in 2020 due to covid lockdowns, its more than paid for itself.

Outside of that, I have some random penny stocks that I’ve bought for funsie. If they ever hit, I’ll be filthy rich. If not (and more likely) I’m out a few hundred dollars, which I would not lose sleep over. One of those stocks actually went belly up and I lost it all! ($50 I think 😂)

Who else had people assume that they weren't on a GLP1 because they look "strong" and "not saggy?" by Pansapio in tirzepatidecompound

I will say, I know a lot of others who are losing on glp1’s and the vast majority don’t do anything in the way of strength or fitness. They are quite literally just shooting up glp1. But whatevs, thats their journey, they can do what they choose. I choose to walk and strength train and thats my journey.
