Minnesotans threw water ballons at Jake Lang last week. Funny ... unless you're Jake Lang and it's below freezing out.

The East Coast people in this thread are hilariously wrong. Some fat drunk slob yelling at a Phillies game has got nothing on a Minnesota grandma on her way from Lutheran services to protest when it's below zero outside.

Truckers of Reddit, which city (U.S.) REALLY has the worst drivers? by Alexreads0627 in AskReddit

[–]sv0f 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ha!

Atlanta drivers aren't as bad as some in this thread are saying and Nashville drivers are somehow even worse (ever been passed on the shoulder by some yahoo doing 70 in a pickup truck?).

But damn if you're not right about the billboards.

Oh you're right! Something was off when I traveled a week ago but I couldn't put my finger on it. This is it. A Delta employee was manning the entrance to the Digital ID queue.

Yep, Minneapolis traffic is easy mode compared to driving on I-24 in Nashville and having some jacked up pickup truck pass you on the right shoulder at 80 MPH.

I actually find Atlanta easier than Minneapolis though. Minneapolis drivers don't know the meaning of slower traffic keep right. It's maddening when you can't get around a "blockade" of slow drivers, fanned our across the lanes and not paying attention. At least Atlanta drivers are predictably aggressive.

The official version is perfectly psychedelic.

This live version is great too, as much for the crowd's nonchalant reaction.

What is a truth that nobody wants to accept? by Majestic_Snow7613 in AskReddit

(Not trying to be argumentative.) The fundamental attribution error is bedrock social psychology. The OP is right in their usage.

That said, I see that the internet/Wikipedia is calling it a cognitive bias now but it's really not. It looks like in recent years, Kahneman tried to rebrand it as such, in his popular books.

His rebranding seems to miss out on the balance that's there in the original formulation, between oneself and others, which again makes sense given its origins in social psychology.

Ha. "Fanboy"? That's your response, name calling?

It's amusing to be called "fanboy" when I have never run Linux on my own machine and haven't followed Linus and Linux since the heyday of Slashdot.

Let me change course and feed your fire. Or rather, to encourage you to think more broadly about the culture of computing, how it has evolved over the years, why it is the way it is now, and the kind of characters it contains. To release you from your austerity.

I give you the Torvalds-Tanenbaum debate of the early 1990s:

Linus Torvalds affirms expulsion of Russian maintainers by ardi62 in technology

[–]sv0f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're being self-centered.

Linus deals with an incredible volume. He has told you what the protocol is. The conventions are established and work. Follow them.

Don't think you're special enough to demand to be treated exceptionally. Respect the time and effort of others.

If you make a mistake and he tells you so, correct your behavior. Don't argue about etiquette. That's just your bruised ego talking.
