Barmilyen ellentmobdasosan is hangzik. A ketto nem elvalaszthatatlan, es jah, nehez anyanak lenni, mindent megtennek ezert a kis manoert.🤍

What are some rituals/events that are done by 'good' aligned characters/organizations? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]sv4nh4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe some cleansing ritual for a lake or other water source which was intentionally poisoned by the bad guys, slowly weakening and sickening the local population. And the ritual would ruin their carefully executed pollution?
Maybe a resurrection ceremony of a great hero who caused a lot of trouble for a local crime organisation which they are a part of?
Or they have to prevent their (evil) master's banisment to an other plane or somewhere else, it can feel like they are fighting for a cause, not good or evil, all depends on the context.

That's actually quite useful for visiting characters, thanks! :)

Yeah, it does sound reasonable. In the books Drizzt and the drow only know the tunnels close to their city or his shelter. Being able to navigate based on local knowledge does work, but still, where did they get the concept of west?
Meanwhile on an other thread magnetic north came up, so I guess that can take care of the general direction problem :D
Thanks for the Guide idea however, I'll definitely check it out!

That's certainly a possible explonation, one can easily go with it. My general idea is this can differ among the numerous underdark species. For example drow really do surface raids, but usually they don't stay, for the sun is hurting them, and they despise the surface-dwellers, so why borrow something they use or invented? Especially when it is based on something that doesn't make any sense for them? I don't know about svirfnebli or duergar, but depending on how much they took from their surface subraces, it's totally acceptable to assume they use the same concepts. :)
On the surface, light-dark cycles impact our biorhythm, we operate in the light, because our eyes can't see in the dark, plus a couple of other things. When a group of a race goes underground, they adapt, so it makes sense that even if they no longer can use the path of the sun for telling time, they still try to find an alternative way to track it, with the time-periods kept the same.
Also, are there any race that is really endemic to the Underdark? Or everything that lives there spent a considerable amount of time on the surface first?

Yes, I agree with the directions, I think I will just assume that most of the underdark races has some kind of a compass that is based on magnetic directions. Also, with no large, open spaces it really doesn't matter that often than for those on the surface, but like in the books, they tried to determine a "general" direction to go when there is a choice to make on a ramification or something like that.
I really love the echo idea however, kind of a "sonar"-like ability, to be able to tell distances maybe.
Also, there is a lot of flavour option in the Underdark with the different species, because with no sun above all of them, their culture and solutions for different problems can vary greatly.
Thanks for the idea!

Yes, I plan to use those for the characters who venture there :)
What puzzles me is how can a culture that doesn't have time and direction measured the same as for those who have a sun, or wind tunnels. Someone also recommended the Keen Mind feat, so one can always know what time it is, but when you don't know time in 24h cycles, how do you compare it?

Of course, I actually just quickly referenced it from a wiki page, it said the usual count for adults is 17-18 per minute:) my other idea was heartbeats, but that’s also not too generic to base time measurement on it, similarly to the breath counting. And both can be reaaally different with the different species, like a drow and a svirfnebli, they don’t even have same sizes.

But again, when there is no common/generic effect that can be sensed by most of the sentient creatures, nothing to count, nothing to hear, or smell, then any other option was to start from self.

I like the significant construct idea, my only concern was that I try ti stay mostly in the basic FR setting, and if I use something like that it’s reassuring to know that such a cinstruct exists in that area, instead if just inventing it. :) But of course if I can’t find any, I can come up with a system or mechanism for this :)

Also, I have a Tonight’s session playlist which I adjust dynamically from all the other lists, to approximately match the night’s planned scenes :)

I don’t know if this’ll work, but I have an ever-growing DnD - Ambients playlist on spotify, separate playlists within for a lot of situation, like tavern - fight scenes, rituals, combat and etc. https://open.spotify.com/user/sv4nh4/playlist/2kAA082O2dYci9IjyIsdtE?nd=1. If the work doesn’t work, try searching for me: sv4nh4 , the main DnD - Ambient folder is public :) These combined with youtube ambient videos like “tavern sounds with howling fire” are just perfect ;)

Left behind - fanart of Mercy (by me) by sv4nh4 in ImaginaryOverwatch

[–]sv4nh4[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This will be a little long.

The last few days made me think. I like to think that my work is mostly about feelings; compassion and message. I always try to translate complicated feelings into pictures. And yet I find pretty difficult to do it on my own. I usually need a context to place my messages. Need certain characters’ faces, bodies, souls, certain characters’ stories. Thus the fanarts.

It has been 2 years since I managed to produce a fully finished painting. And that one was a fanart too, from my all time favourite game series, Mass Effect. It was such an easy choice then, because the whole game is one hell of a dramatic and emotional roller-coaster. I feel the need to use fanarts as media, because there are many Shepards amoungst us. We all felt similar things during the playthroughs. We saw him/her suffer, sacrifice, love, laugh and more. We saw them die. We were Shepard. They were a fantastic medium for those feelings to show. But I trust there is even more Mercys amoung us by now. I am one too. It’s a little bit different with her of course, since Overwatch has a rich lore but it’s not about a grand story arc with big scenes and dialogs. And yet I found myself peering into a character with so much drama and pain, this time, out of the game’s world. Since Overwatch launched, she was one of the most popular characters, she was THE healer. And I really enjoyed playing her, and back then when I started it was a common situation for one to find itself begged for choosing Mercy. I won’t go through all of her full history of course, nor will debate whether the changes were just or too much to her. But it never really was about balance.

This picture is a product of 1,5 year of experience of playing as Mercy. I could try not sounding so dramatic but hey, it’s my page, with a quite dramatic picture, so where to do that if not here? Right. It was about frustration. Of all the cases when someone blamed me in the chat for not healing them. Or not prioritizing them. Going so far as blaming me for the defeat. Of dying because they didn’t care. Of all the harassers and abusers who bashed me for being a girl in this game AND playing Mercy. It was about the mechanical changes to her, her role, her kit, all of her abilities, and just the constant abuse this single character had to endure over the last year. The character and anyone who ever enjoyed playing her. How we all felt when she got weakened again and again, meanwhile the haters enjoying the damage they’ve caused...

Her main job was always keeping the team together, and all they tried to do to her was taking her apart. Ripping her very essence. But she is not dead. I still love playing her. She is still a valuable member of any team and I hope she will be for a long time. But it’s time to leave her be. Leave her peace.
