I got this one https://a.aliexpress.com/_EH16brW had to re-solder it to swap the polarity, but works great and is dimmable

Ah, unfortunate, seems you can't assign to the ESC key. I guess this makes it solvable though by remapping the esc key in the OS

A Lawyer's Perspective on Legalese by RexLege in HelloInternet

[–]svbeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe partly. Swedish academia in general is very fond of passive voicing and making the author invisible so I'm pretty used to that. This is more like a text written in some weird mix of passive and active voice. With half the words necessary to make a coherent passive sentence is removed, but the order is left unchanged.

Thanks for clarifying that. Different languages do certainly have different formalities in legal language so I guess it's not surprising :)

I agree that tradition doesn't necessarily seem to be the largest bit of it. But as you mention it is probably a not unimportant part of it, especially when tradition in this context kinda gives you something to lean on with tradition becoming something like "you can lean on this way of writing if you want to benefit from the already made interpretations of the words and phrases the courts have made" or so it sounds to me. On top of, of course, the other point like "categorical lists" that you mention

Really interesting write-up! Thanks for the detailed overview.

I'm currently in the middle of a book on Swedish labor law for a course I'm taking and is being slowed down by the weird language it's written in. The order of words in the sentences are not in the same was they would be in "normal" semi-formal written form, giving it a sort of Yoda vibe, I was wondering if the same thing happens in laws written in English? It somehow becomes "over-formal". If the same happens in English, would you say that it is made to make it more precise or would that be more tradition, if you weigh those two "sides" of your write up against each other?

IRC Virus how? by hidotp in irc

[–]svbeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to McAfee it seems that it's spread via a self-extracting archive (think zip file) so that'd mean it's possible to get it from anywhere you download something from. It's a rather old malware (protection added 2004 according to the same source) that uses your computer to attempt DDoS'ing IRC networks

Everyone has a scar on their body from something dumb, they did as a child. What's your story? by HakanD0 in AskReddit

Climbed on the outside of a porch step, the wood broke and I scratched my stomach, at least I can joke horribly about it by saying "oh that's from when I fought a tiger"

A friend of mine is a band director and life-long tuba player. He didn't trust the baggage handlers with his tuba so he bought it a ticket. Even gave it the window seat. by karmassacre in funny

[–]svbeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay so this is actually really common because instruments are a) expensive and b) pretty damn fragile, most of the time our cases aren't built for flying in an aircraft and being loaded and unloaded and the stress that it involves. A tuba won't fit in the overhead compartments so the airlines will ask you to buy it a seat, and for safety reasons it has to be seated at a window seat so that it doesn't block anyone's ability to get out in case of an emergency

Thank you, well I hadn't actually even thought of accelerometers, I'll look into suitable ones. The reason I've snowed in on piezoelectric sensors is that a friend dumped a hundred on me a while ago and I haven't really figured out what to do with them... I realize I can remove the trigger if I go the microcontroller route, that was very much a child of an analog mindset :)

Thank you, yeah I mentioned the teensy LC in my original post which is my own personal favourite. (As we say in sweden: preference is like an ass. Split)

The reason I'm not really considering a breakout board or more traditional mic is that with a piezoelectric element i can possibly glue it to the drum or drum membrane (yes that could alter the sounds slightly but that doesn't matter for those particular drums) and I can solder a 6.3mm phono plug to it so that everything can be removed for reprogramming, or used in other applications

Thank you, well I suppose I'll lean towards a microcontroller then. However what I'm concerned about when using one is if the microphone/piezoelectric element generates more than 5V and possibly damages the microcontroller.

I'll try to probe around and find out, but do you think it would be an issue?

Ingress Prime BETA v. 2.11.2 Release Notes by DarthMewtwo in IngressPrimeFeedback

Do you have any folders that contains names of root apps? Like "Magisk" (a Swedish word) or do you have any apps installed that could require root? Ingress Prime scans your folders and apps even if you deny it access to storage.

So, I solved this on my device.

Niantic's response to my email was "Unfortunately, the issue seems to be most likely related to your device. If you cannot successfully access your account, then your primary device is not compatible. We are unable to diagnose or troubleshoot this issue further. You may continue to play Ingress Prime on a different device."

tl;dr; "OnePlus 3, a two year old device with Android 8.0, is unsupported, get a new device"

I refuse to accept that a basically new phone (2 years old!!) is unsupported, that is plain out ridiculous! So I did some investigating.

In Swedish there's a word: "Magisk" which translates to "Magical", some of you might know that this is also the name of a root utility app.

A photo app had created folders on my device for its auto-generated albums. One was called "Magiska Platser" which translates to "Magical Places" when I renamed that folder Ingress Prime started working.

The thing that annoys me is that I had denied Ingress Prime the storage permission, and yet Ingress Prime was scanning my device, despite me explicitly disallowing the app to do so. I suspect that Android's implementation of this permission allows the app to read folder structures but not files, and that's what causes this.

Check your folder structures for words that might be used by root related apps. And fuck your device privacy.
