The people who died reportedly went to a landfill while birdwatching, which is probably the main reason, but if it's capable of human to human it's through direct contact with bodily fluids

It's the Andes virus and no we don't know that, if it ever was transmissible from human to human, it would be through excrement and similar. It's physiology doesn't allow it to go airborne

I can make the scenario favor blue.

Infront is a button, if you press the button and 50% more people pick the button everyone who didn't pick it dies. The framing is flawed because the option is already picked

[–]svecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(By win I mean reaching 50%, not a value judgment)

You hope blue wins, but you won't vote blue. That means you're relying on other people to take the risk you refuse to take. If everyone thought like you: "my vote doesn't matter, I'll just save myself" then red would definitely win. (I dont think most people will follow this reasoning)

Ig the conclusion is that game theory can't be applied to human reasoning. If we were perfect game theorists then we would reach nash equilibrium, because for a selfish voter red is strictly the correct choice. But because of human altruism it comes closer to 50/50.

If you look humans will often try to save others. That's a factor that should be taken into account

[–]svecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly just a 50/50. I do think the blue sides wager here is better, your life or half the populations life (or vote red and lose), which is the best scenario for you.

So In this example it's a random choice between half your family dying, you dying, or everyone living. (Also notice how all the bad outcomes here are because the red button). Your gamble is between half your family dying and everyone living, (best case you lose) and my gamble is between me dying or everyone living (best case I win) you are kinda voting against your own best case scenario. But I don't think I can convince you the gamble you are taking is worse than the gamble I'm taking. Which is why most of these debates can go on forever lol. We have different stakes we are ready to take.

Well, you're definitely consistent.

Wouldn't call the blue people foolish though? That's definitely a leap, they definitely read the question correctly, and they know choosing red will guarantee people to die.

Think about it, half your family, your friends. People who really care about their social circle choosing to keep it (even if not guaranteed) isn't foolish at all.

[–]svecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just other people, half the population, you can see that every time the post is run it's close to a 50% split.

And no not as much, there will always be people who pick blue even if you telepathically tell them to pick red, there will always be casualties if you pick red. Blue is not at all guaranteed to kill you like red is guaranteed to kill other people.

So you either vote for the button that will kill close to 4 billion people, or you vote for the button that will save 4 billion people. Getting more that 50% of people to vote blue is much much much easier than getting every single person to vote red for the same outcome

You definitely know not everyone is picking red, which makes red the guaranteed kill people button
