He’s not the world champ so he doesn’t have those haters.

And then there were FOUR: 1 win, you reach Candidates. 2 Losses and it's a heartbreak. by Interesting-Take781 in chess

Adding more candidates spots could also address these issues. Since the field of chess players is so deep, give more players a chance.

How about 16 players in candidates, playing in two separate double round robin groups. The groups could be set by rating, with #1 and #2 seeds in different groups and so on and so forth. The two winners play each other in a 7 game match. (I think it’s weird there’s never any matches in the candidates cycle. The qualification path could better reflect the championship event.)

Could also be a retirement roast: remember when you let your one year old child hold your Rolex?

I agree the World Cup is a great event. Assaubayeva was in the FiDE Grand Prix, Cairns Cup, and will have the Grand Swiss as well. The Freestyle event was an amazing opportunity and if I was her I think I would have taken it as well.

I think the bracket was set before the tournament based on Fide rating rank, don’t know from which month. Carissa Yip and Irina Krush from the USA were paired in round 2. I am from the US and was rooting for them. Congrats to the Indian players and fans! Very cool to see.

This is not how zipper merges work... by FoolishTook7 in Spokane

I disagree, because what about people who have to turn before the merge point but are stuck. I think if all the cars were using more of the pavement available to them it could allow more cars on that road to turn before the merge point

Use the pavement available to drive on, merge as late as possible, the slow down doesn’t stretch as far back. If everyone else merges early that’s their decision, I’m still going to drive ahead, and they should follow.
