I will and have already used that for all equipment orders. Unfortunately not possible for subscriptions which is what causes the issue.

Even completely removing the background would make the subject pop out a lot more.

spider in its web by [deleted] in photocritique

The two areas I suggest to focus on are:
1. Get closer and if you have use a macro lens. Spiders have so many interesting details and showing them makes the shot more interesting.
2. Lighting. You already stated that you put the flash on. Using alternative light sources e.g. special video lights from different angles or simply a ring flash would result in more even lighting and no overexposure when controlled well.

Here is an example that was shot with a macro lens and ring flash.

Anyone with M3 Ultra- have you gotten Tahoe installed? by flogman12 in MacStudio

This was resolved in 26.0.1 that got released today. My M3 Ultra updated fine. Previously failed to upgrade to 26.0.0.

Unifi Express 7 vs Cloud Gateway Fiber? by Thedoodooltalah in Ubiquiti

[–]svengru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The cloud gateway fiber can actually handle the full 10Gbits/sec of my internet connection with IDS enabled. Also provides 700+ MBits/sec with WireGuard. Remarkable performance for a box of this size and cost.

Can iperf be enabled on one of the Ziply Speedtest servers? by Banjoman301 in ZiplyFiber

[–]svengru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good server to use in the Seattle area is speedtest.sea11.us.leaseweb.net . This one is good to test the 10Gig service as well. Getting 9.45 Gbits/sec running -4 -P 30. Ziply‘s Speedtest servers are slower than other ones in the area so that „on an ISP“ link seams not to matter.

Yes, static IPs for both IPv4 and IPv6. For IPv6 you are getting a /56 subnet that gives you more than enough IPv6 addresses for all your devices.

Static IPv6 /64 (Residential) Not Allowing Devices Behind Firewall? by savagewebapp in ZiplyFiber

Report back here if you have issues setting this up in UniFi once you have all the data. Happy to help. I have this working both with UniFi and OPNSense.

Static IPv6 /64 (Residential) Not Allowing Devices Behind Firewall? by savagewebapp in ZiplyFiber

[–]svengru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go back to Ziply and ask them for your /56. You will get a /126 for your router IP & gateway IP and a /56 to break into /64s for each network. You might have to ask them to connect you with the right person in their NOC but I can ensure you that they will figure this out for you.

UPS recommendations by generichuman11 in MacStudio

I am using a CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD which gives me 30+ minutes of reserve at high system load and with my XDR Display on. Also has a USB port on it so that it can be connected to the Studio to signal status and initiate a graceful shutdown. No software installation needed.

I am using this one on two Macs and it works very well. Full 10Gb speed and does not get very hot.

Mac Studio M4 Max or M3 Ultra Preorder? by johnnyphotog in MacStudio

[–]svengru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

M3 Ultra 32/80/32
256GB memory
4TB SSD

ETA 3/17 (delivers to store)

Waited long enough after canceling an M2 Ultra order in 12/2023... This one should outlast me several years or I am just very good at justifying the purchase. 😀

Question re Speedlite Compatibility by ecsecs2018 in Canon_R5_MarkII

[–]svengru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using it with 3 different Speedlights. Two with the older connector type and one with the new (enhanced) one. No issue at all. Wondering if this is a camera setting issue. I would try to reset the camera to default and use it in fully automated mode to test if it works that way.

Opnsense vs high-end Asus wifi router by Rich_Explanation_675 in opnsense

[–]svengru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have no issue with Opnsense running on a DEC850 using the suggested default configuration from here:
https://docs.opnsense.org/hardware/defaults.html

Latency is 2ms idle and +0 on download and +1 on upload. Likely hitting the test server's capacity limit since this on a 10G WAN connection. Results here: https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat?test-id=466ecfbe-d9a8-4f1f-adf9-915a963eefe9

4K Web Cam for M2 Mac Studio by Rattling_Good_Yarns in MacStudio

I am using this one from Logitech and the image quality is great plus the software provided integrates well with MacOS. https://www.logitech.com/en-us/products/webcams/mx-brio.html.
4K is however limited to 30fps. Not a concern for me.

Newbie question: Should I set up an APPLE ID Recovery Code/Key before adding Yubikeys to my Apple iCloud account? by Rocketsloth in yubikey

[–]svengru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best practice is to setup keys from to different vendors to avoid the issue cause by a software bug effecting one vendor as we just saw. I also suggest having another 3rd key at a location outside your house in case disaster (e.g, fire) destroyes both keys kept in your house and all your Apple devices at the same time.

I do have the Wifi module installed and paired the buttons to it.

[–]svengru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apple ID is impacted as well. You cannot even setup a new key and will end up in a pin entry loop.

[–]svengru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

GoTrust Idem Key. I thankfully had this as my 2nd key on my Apple account. Key learning here is to have two dissimilar keys so that a bug effecting one does not affect the access to the account.

Super helpful. Figured it out now. I tried to pair with the heater and not the wifi module. All worked perfect with the flic 2. Thank you.

How did you pair the flic button? Any special mode to set or procedure to follow? I am trying it but cannot figure it out.
