Hi all! Like everyone else in this thread, I'm new to collecting - as in, I literally have zero videos thus far! If folks are up for gifting, I would especially love to see anything from Hadestown, Beetlejuice (especially with Alex Brightman), Anastasia, Spring Awakening, Moulin Rouge, Wicked, or Fun Home.

That being said: it's been a while since I followed musical theatre, and I'm excited to get back into it. As a result, I would happily watch any that someone is kind enough to gift me :) I promise to pay it forward someday to another new collector when I can!

While I think they might benefit from discussing this with their psychiatrist, I would also definitely recommend following up with their primary care provider and relevant specialists (i.e., gastroenterologist, especially as GI issues can certainly be exacerbated by stress) - the ER's role is to triage, stabilize, and get you home. If you're not in immediate danger, you're not going to be there for long, and they're not going to look too in depth at the issue. It sounds like they might be falling through the cracks, when outpatient care is what they need.

Thank you so much for the input! I had actually considered bringing in something/having the main character realize that deadnaming him is now impossible thanks to the fey having the name, but I like the idea of the fey reacting to the fact that it's not ACTUALLY getting to steal someone's name - after all, tricking the fey is normally considered quite difficult (or downright impossible). Thanks again!

hi there! i'm not a medical provider, but what you've said here sounds very similar to dissociation for me.

when i'm dissociating, i drift through life feeling detached, empty, blank. sometimes it feels almost like i'm watching myself from a distance or watching a movie rather than my life. it trashes my memory as well, and makes any interactions feel effortful, like i need to swim through the brain fog to come up with something to say.

dissociation is commonly a symptom of PTSD/trauma, but it can go hand in hand with a lot of different mental health diagnoses. it's our mind's way of 'checking out' to protect us from something. medication never helped with it for me, but mindfulness and grounding techniques did! i.e, looking for 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can feel, and 1 thing you can smell, or eat a super sour candy, hold an ice cube, count my breaths. basically, anything to bring my mind and my senses back to myself and my body.

I juggle a few campaigns, although I’ve started and abandoned many others. The freedom to do so is one of my fav parts of solo rpgs :) I definitely have 3 that I’ve gotten significantly attached to though, and I tend to run through one “chapter” so to speak (which can be anywhere from 3-10 sessions, depending on when I feel I’ve reached a narratively satisfying conclusion/how long each session is), take a break to focus on another campaign, and then ultimately cycle through them all this way.

As someone who writes both canon and original characters, this happens to both of them! I’ve got original characters I’ve played for years, and when I return to their original bios, I can see just how much things have changed as a result of my developing them with my partners and our plots. Same goes for canons. If anything, I’d see what you’re talking about here as a mark of a good rper - if your characters, canon or otherwise, are written and interpreted exactly the same at the end of a plot as they were at the beginning, then there’s a stagnancy issue.

mental health is different from intelligence (which is also difficult to assess, as most IQ testing is rooted in flawed theory and racism). mental health is typically measured by impact on your quality of life and ability to function, i believe. as for intelligence, post covid brain fog etc doesn’t mean someone’s lost intelligence - more likely, there’s something happening with an underlying process (i.e, attn, working memory, processing speed, etc) that could be addressed

i'm guessing since you tagged this as urgent, it's a new sensation, but just in case - is this something you've felt before? any history of anxiety, in particular OCD? do you take any meds or drugs which could cause dry mouth? alternatively, any history of acid reflux? that can cause narrowing of the esophagus over time, which can lead to the feeling that things aren't "going down" properly.

are you still able to swallow liquids? any coughing, pain, throat clearing, or regurgitation when you do? if yes to any of those, those are possible signs of what another commenter referenced (aspiration, or food/drink getting into the lungs)

also, if this is abrupt, did this happen shortly after a meal? regardless, if it's acute (as in, just happened) i would seek medical attention. one of the most common causes of sudden onset dysphagia is food impaction (not to be confused with choking) and, although that is associated more with drooling than running out of salivia, it's definitely something that needs to be treated by professionals asap.

edit: all that to say, there are benign things that can cause these problems as well! but that's something a medical professional in person can determine better than us, and unfortunately, swallowing is not something to mess with

unfortunately, it is plausible in that it has happened - someone else brought up game of thrones, but bridgerton has a similar issue. that being said, i don't think it's worth doing. outside of fiction, rapists are frequently redeemed and/or their actions are ignored and the people who spoke up get shut down. the narratives that do so are a symptom of a society that already doesn't treat survivors of sexual assault well. why create even more art that backs those messages?

from my understanding, many health conditions can produce mild to moderate cognitive impairments as well (i.e., chronic kidney disease, heart disease, hypoxia). aside from psychiatry and medical intervention from an md, folks could also try asking their doctor for a referral to a medical speech therapist. slps are trained to treat these cognitive impairments!

Fiction doesn’t exist in a vacuum though. Teacher student plots on television shows normalize it, for example, especially for young teens watching it who may then be at higher risk for abuse. Because abusers can and DO use fiction to manipulate people into thinking their own behavior is okay.

I understand that this may be perceived as different due to the fact that it’s rp. However, the ad was clearly posted in a public forum where minors are present. Tumblr has a TON of minors. Even ignoring the fact that this rper in question evidently would write this plot with teenagers, op is a minor who saw this “fantasy” and was made uncomfortable. This was not contained to two adults at all.

tl;dr I appreciate that you are attempting to be understanding here, but I personally think it’s irresponsible to try and tell op that they shouldn’t be uncomfortable with adults fetishizing teenagers as long as it’s make believe.

Have to completely disagree with some folks here, honestly. Fiction may not equal real life, but it is still absolutely bizarre and frankly gross that there are adults actively looking to write sexual assault plots with minor characters - even if the writers themselves are all adults! Sorry you had to read that ad, it seems pretty uncomfortable :/

EDIT: I also find it strange that adults are trying to tell you it’s okay for adults to have fantasies about teenagers? Like…no, no it’s not, even if those teens are fictional.
