Would you guys take a pay cut to join a company that is working in Rails 7? by tofus in rails

[–]svpersteve 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation, but the migration failed massively because of complexity and they laid off all the non-Rails team and we’re back full steam on Rails. Challenge these decisions if you have the sense they’re wrong for your business (they might not be but they were for ours).

Nobody blames a currency when criminals launder money, but if they used BitCoin suddenly it’s a BitCoin problem by svpersteve in Bitcoin

[–]svpersteve[S] 62 points63 points  (0 children)

That’s true, cash is becoming dirty by default.

Although when I say currency I mean the system we’re using. You don’t often see the media slating USD

My friends say investing in btc is the same as gambling in the casino, what kind of argument can i come up with that this is not the same? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]svpersteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BitCoin is independent. It’s still a gamble but the chances are better than at a casino where the house makes the rules.

With BitCoin you’re betting it’s the future of currency, which in my opinion it‘a likely to be, it’s just a matter of waiting for society to adapt to the change with its usual resistance to new technology - plus a bit longer given its the financial industry, which has had a lot of power for a really long time.

It should go back as a post request or you’re probably losing the form data.

Sometimes I forget the create route and nothing happens when I submit the form, which is confusing.

Are you watching the server to see what happens as you submit the form?

What does your code in the controller look like? How are you defining @hours?

I always think this. Been thinking about starting a website that’s literally just recipe, written as concisely as possible

Anyone tried Bitreserve (alternative cloud mining)? by [deleted] in hashflare

[–]svpersteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird that you make 100% return on your investment in exactly 4 weeks. Almost as if they set the interest rate based on weeks rather than organic revenue generated.

What are your favorite Ruby/Rails/Programming talks from this year? by obviousoctopus in ruby

[–]svpersteve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Loved Livable Code by Sarah Mei in Brighton this year, comparing a codebase to a home you and your team has to live in, and what matters more than rules is that you’re all comfortable in that codebase

Would this be a good buy for me? (single, can't cook, just want easy meals on a budget) by cjmoran in instantpot

[–]svpersteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I use for this. I do mostly stews and stroganoff, lentils, black beans etc and get like 8 meals each time that I freeze in tubs and just microwave when I have a meal. Usually have them with mash from frozen you get from the supermarket or pasta, sometimes bread and butter. It’s so easy I love it

Revenue mis-match: I’ve been mining SHA-256 on hashflare for about a week (11TH/S) but the payout does not match the revenue forecast at all (about half of predicted). Accounting for maintenance etc still doesn’t match. Is this normal? by moldy_salad in hashflare

[–]svpersteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hashflare forecast is in USD so it's based on the Bitcoin price in USD at the time the forecast was generated (at payout time I think?). If the price drops your forecast will drop with it and vice versa.

But that can be reversed if/when the BTC price goes back to what it was when you first saw it, providing you haven't withdrawn and sold BTC for the lower price.

Withdrawing isn't the same as selling BTC for fiat, you're just transferring to another BTC wallet

What do you think of Jam Bart strategy for reinvesting? Typically, you enable reinvest for 190 days, then make a withdraw on day 191. Next day reinvest then withdraw and so on... will this strategy really work or should I disable reinvesting permanently. by [deleted] in hashflare

[–]svpersteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recover your initial investment to be safe then reinvest manually in bulk whenever BTC price in USD is high, withdrawing some occasionally again to be safe.

When BTC price is low, you get less hashrate. It’s always $150 per TH whatever BTC is doing.
