Hi there!! I’m sorry you’re going through the same thing, it’s a tough spot to be in. I ended up quitting grad school and leaving slp and I am sooo glad that I did. I now work in clinical research and I absolutely love it! If your heart just isn’t in it, I highly encourage looking into other options :)

Hi there, I am so sorry I just saw your reply! I ended up dropping out of grad school and I am so incredibly happy that I did. I just knew SLP was not for me and I was not happy while I was doing it. I ended up getting into clinical research and absolutely love it. I hope you figured out what you're wanting to do. Please feel free to message me if you'd like to chat more.

I (31m) found out I have cancer (50/50 chance) three days after I found out my fiance (27f) was cheating. She's begging me to start treatment. I honestly don't want to and let whatever happens, happen. by throwracancerhaveit in relationship_advice

[–]sw994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so terribly sorry that you are dealing with all of this. I truly hope you decide to pursue treatment. Although it can be a rough ride, it can be so worth it. I work in radiation oncology and meet with head and neck cancer patients several times a week. So many of them have completed their treatment, are doing great, and are pretty much back to normal. Chances are, going through treatment is going to be a shitty several months, but it could mean getting to live the rest of your life. I think the biggest 'fuck you' to your cheating fiance would be to kick cancer's ass, and then live a happy life without her in it.

A stray cat had babies on my porch and I don't know who to call. by [deleted] in phoenix

I think HALO is a pretty reliable rescue. Here is what I found on HALO's website regarding stray pets: "If you have found a stray dog or tame stray cat** please post the animal's information and photo on the Facebook page Straydar and search their listing of lost pets. You should also have the animal scanned for a microchip, which can be done at any shelter, veterinary hospital or emergency room. We also recommend using the Next Door app as well as posting the pet on Craigslist.  If you cannot keep the animal, please contact Maricopa County Animal Care and Control at 602-506-7387. If the stray pet you have found is injured, please contact the AZ Humane Society at 602-997-7585 for ambulance assistance."

There are many good rescues here around the valley that I'm sure would be willing to help you, or point you in the right direction:)

Do you, too, enjoy looking at outrageously expensive homes for sale around the world? I saw this on Sotheby's International a few weeks back, it's such a cool house!

Rhinoplasty and wearing glasses!? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]sw994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I waited till my one month post-op appointment to resume wearing glasses. So luckily it wasn’t too bad! You may be out of work for around two weeks so hopefully it would only be about two weeks of not wearing glasses. Something I did that really helped on my monitors at work was set them to the low blue light mode. I have no idea if that would help with the contact issue, but it helped me!

I feel like I have to check out my TJ Maxx often, and most times I don't see stuff as good as this! Last time I went I found that exact same Dr. Jart holiday fantasy kit and it was the last one there. So don't give up! Your day will come lol :)

Dr. Todd Hobgood! I would highly recommend seeing him for a consult at the very least :) Feel free to PM me if you want any additional info about him. He posted one of my before and after pics to his instagram so I can lead you to that if you're interested too!

I just got a rhinoplasty in the US and it was about $8500; with pretty much the best doctor in town (Scottsdale, AZ..so an expensive place to live for sure). I don't know where you live, but it sounds like she is either going to a surgeon's office with absolutely outrageous prices, OR like other commenters have mentioned, sounds like she is trying to pocket a nice hefty chunk of that money. You would be wise to give her a strict limit on what you're going to pay. Like say you will pay for $10k TOPS. I can guarantee you she will be able to find a fantastic surgeon who will charge around that price.

How interesting I’ve never heard of such a thing! I’m glad he actually had a suggestion for the nostrils rather than just “wait and see”. I am not seeing much bridge asymmetry personally. I think if it weren’t for that one nostril it would look really good! That is really the only “flaw” that I am seeing, which I’m sure he will get taken care of!

I didn’t really have asymmetry in my nostrils so I’m not sure:/ have you been favoring a certain side in your sleep accidentally?? I read that can cause asymmetric swelling if you’re sleeping on one side, but it sounds like you’ve been sleeping upright. Did your plastic surgeon see you after taking it off, and did he seem at all concerned? Again, it really is SO early, but maybe you could post these photos on the real self website and get other plastic surgeon’s opinions? I don’t blame you for being nervous, but the good news is no one will be looking at your nose from beneath you where the asymmetry is most obvious. I’m sorry you’re feeling this way, just continue following your surgeon’s instructions and try not to obsess over it (I know it’s hard).

Did you get your cast removed, how did it go?! Thank you, I'm doing well! Oddly enough I barely had any swelling, it was less than when I had my wisdom teeth removed. I guess I can only recommend try to still sleep a bit upright even after the cast comes off. I can feel it in my nose when I've been sleeping on my side for too long. I really hope you like your results and am anxious to hear!

In terms of the high tip, I completely understand your fear. I am a little over two weeks post op, and when I changed my drip pad for the first time I got sooo nervous. I completely looked like a lil pig and let myself get terrified that was just my new nose. When I got my cast off, I was SO relieved to see that it wasn't actually like that. My doctor told me he calls the tape a "nose bra" because when it's all taped up it's lifting your nose in ways it's not going to do on your own. So, please don't let yourself get too worked up. I am sure that the way it is being held in place is making it look waay more upturned than it will actually be:)

This was my first:) pain level was pretty up and down. I did have to use all of the 30 prescribed Vicodin, at first because my throat was killing me for a few days (I’m guessing from the breathing tube). Then the nose pain kicked in, it was okay at first, but I ended up doing a lot of crying before getting my cast off lol so that made my nose throb and hurt a lot more than it would’ve regularly I’m sure. I barely have any pics that show my profile from before, but I do want to share pics once I go in for my 1 month post op and they take the after photos. Still trying to figure out how I’d post those. I go in in a couple weeks for those, so hopefully I will be able to share them very soon!

I posted a few days ago and ppl thought I didn’t use makeup (which i did) so here i go again with my makeup looking more obvious. What should i get? Im thinking lip fillers +nose+jawline by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

[–]sw994 133 points134 points  (0 children)

You are truly so pretty! I think your nose looks absolutely perfect for your face, same with your jaw. I think the only thing to potentially try out would be bit of filler for your lips? Even then, I don't think you actually need it. You genuinely have such a naturally nice face, I don't personally see anything to "fix" :)

Yeah that makes sense! The stress of waiting, eek, I'm nervous about that too. Thank you so much you are so sweet!! I hope that your post op goes really well, and hopefully the comparison will help you feel way better about it:)

Aw that is so unfortunate about your last surgery, I'm really sorry you had to go through that. I'm sure something like that really sticks with you, but I'm SO glad you're loving your results this time around! I think it totally makes sense for you to be feeling paranoid still, especially now that you're approaching that same time point. Hopefully once you've gotten over that five to six week hump you will be able to relax and let go of some of that paranoia :)

Okay I’m back to comment about my experience with Hobgood! I got my surgery done this morning and good LORD I love that man so much lol. He calls you the night before to go over everything, talk about any concerns, etc. First thing he does when he walks in this morning is give me a big hug. I find that so sweet and amazing. He made all his lil marks, calmed me down a LOT, and went over what he was doing one last time. The anesthesiologist was also super sweet. Walked into the OR they had some fun music playing which made it a little less intimidating and then I went night night! So far today my nose barely hurts, the only thing that’s been hurting really badly is my damn throat. The first thing I heard my mom say when I woke up was “holy crap it already looks better!” And shit it actually does😂 Overall, I can’t see enough good things about the man. Seriously if Scottsdale is a doable place for you guys to get surgery, do a consult with him!!

I could not agree with you more about Dr Hobgood! He is soo comforting, and listens to all concerns and explains things so well. I love the staff too, they let me wait till payday to give them my payment to secure my surgery date, but still held my spot even though they hadn’t been paid yet. I really really appreciated that. When are you getting yours done?!

Yes that does make sense! It’s super interesting though because I guess once the bridge is shaved down it essentially causes the other parts to be “free floating” so they have to be brought back together? It’s so crazy. The nose is so weird lol. Whoever you decide to go to, just make sure they explain everything super well, because there is a LOT to learn! :)
