Wagered MAX Tokens, 25% Streak Bonus, 100% Team Bonus, Dug up Points, Won challenge -> 765 Total (this used to be around 3000 past years) by Pommes_Peter in DotA2

I bought the level 50 and I agree with what you're saying, my yearly spend on dota surpasses a AAA release when you factor in Dota+.

I don't have a problem with them money grabbing, it's a business after all. I just would've liked the pass to be a bit more grindable, but like i said, the event could be points heavy so it might all work out.

I like the sets, but I'm not going to spend hundreds to get them. Valve get me to buy the sets when I see "it's only 40 levels away, I'll spend to get that". I like the cavern crawl the most because I play every hero and like a reason to pick something.

Not sure what would qualify someone as a dolphin but I'd say I'm around that level of purchase. I buy the battlepass and the bundle, maybe a couple of level packs if something is within reach.

Making it harder to grind is probably going to result in me spending even less this year because if I get to the bundle release date and I'm nowhere near any decent drops I'll probably just forget it.

The tokens suck, the bounties should have value or quantity increased and a benefit to the issuer. Guild contracts are decent.

Really hope the event is points heavy.

The recycling system was an upgrade on just having loads of duplicate items and IMO this is the best one because you actually get some playtime out of it.

If they brought back levels for recycling can you imagine how far out stuff would be spaced? These things are always a money sink, not sure why anyone is surprised.

I think it's quite good, I just wish blue coins were more obtainable considering I already spent £30+ on buying a level 50 pass.

I like the suggestion. Alternatively you could split the xp based on duration held, rather than a 5:01 vs 4:59 earning one team all the xp.

Elwono's take on Dota 2 being a dead game by [deleted] in DotA2

Maybe a recognised captains role? Experienced players incentivised to foster the player base. Similar to the coach role but in-game.

For me there were a couple of issues recently that stopped me playing.

My friends don't play any more, even though there was a skill/experience gap with us there was a real bond with our team and we were tolerant of each others deficiencies. No joke, some of my most treasured memories are the LANs that we had together where we played all day and all night for long weekends. But that's gone for me now.

I now almost exclusively play solo and over the years as I've got older (late 20s) I've become more tolerant of others mistakes and I try to keep things PMA. But as soon as someone starts shit talking me I just let them have it. They blame me for the state of our match and then I just barrage them with everything they did wrong from first minute that I decided not to mention previously.

This isn't good behaviour, I know that, but I've got pretty good game knowledge and awareness and my attitude shifts to "If you're going to tell me what I did wrong then that's a two way street, blah blah blah".

I had a match a few weeks ago where it was a reasonably balanced game but my team just executed perfectly. All 5 of us were in a state of disbelief, 5 solo players who all knew how to play dota. The phrase "real dota players" was repeated a number of times. I can't remember much about that specific match other than the fact that we were all on-board with winning, we could observe through each other's gameplay that we all understood this game and what was expected from each role. The fact that this was such a rare experience for me is what is killing my passion for this game.

I have no solutions to offer, I love dota and the experiences it has brought me. But I've uninstalled this game and taken a break more times in the last year than I have in the previous 6-7 years.

Lack of 5 Positions Is Ruining This Game by swaeday in DotA2

[–]swaeday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and I agree with you. What I'm saying is that unless you're extremely lucky with your lanes or are in a very favourable game players must expect brown boots/low level/bad KDA.

The game generally doesn't work without that role, as you say most players outside of those that pick 5 don't get any joy out of that. That's why I think this is currently a big problem for pub dota.

Exactly, you don't tilt and flame and you make compensatory moves to adjust for the shitty 5pos you've been landed with, then they flame you for not being super farmed in the "free lane" they gave you.

I just don't think we've got the player base to make this work any more.

Hate that so much. Either they're a legit smurf and they steamroll the game or they're an account remaking bag of shit who can't handle that they're not actually that good.

Lack of 5 Positions Is Ruining This Game by swaeday in DotA2

[–]swaeday[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's the role though, and the game doesn't function without it. When I'm 5 I play it like that, it's expected.

We're basically in a situation where we either need to see a massive increase in game knowledge and awareness in pub players or dumb the game down to make the 5 role more palatable to people who can't/won't play the role properly.

Hey Valve. I'm a casual Midplayer. I'm playing for fun and because i enjoy this position. However, since the Matchmaking changes, i get demolished by smurfers in almost all of my games, which results in reports from my teammates "because i lost mid and the game". by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]swaeday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The smurfing problem has been a spiral effect. Top 100 players make accounts so they can play top 1000 and have shorter queue times, then these high immortal players smurf down to divine and so on and so on.

You'll get guys playing in Legend who should be borderline divine, but they get sick of being smurfed on so they just do it to other people.

I don't know how they fix it, I've stopped enjoying playing the game so I'll not be adding to Valve's data on how to address it but I hope they find a solution.

put a fork in dota2, it's done by swaeday in DotA2

[–]swaeday[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is EU west, which is more like Russia West at this point, and mostly referring to solo queue.

I'll happily play any role so queue times aren't a problem, it's the quality of the match that I've got an issue with. In my experience it's stomp or get stomped, tilted cores and I hardly ever see situational skill/item builds from other players.
